Did irony jump, or was it pushed?

I was going to post this from Krugman with "no comment" attached, to avoid being "mean," but Atrios beat me to it. Quoting Krugman:

One thing that has been sort of written out of the mainstream history of politics is the sheer insanity of the attacks on the Clintons — they were drug smugglers, they murdered Vince Foster (and lots of other people), they were in league with foreign powers. And this stuff didn’t just show up in fringe publications — it was discussed in Congress, given props by the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, and so on.

Hey, look, I'm not saying anything. Not a word.

You'll never get me to be snarky. Na ga happen.

Atrios said that?

Where was he on the sheer insanity of attacking Hillary when his vile posters (only a few of them...still) were having a feeding frenzy?

I'm not snarky. I'm pissed.

Krugman said it

Atrios quoted it. I revised the text to make that clear.

Well, I seem to remember

that he got involved in it too. And I'm also pissed.

The whole last year will be disappeared

since it seems almost certain Obama will win, and especially after he does win. Like it never happened.

And it will be portrayed as them forgiving the Clintons.

Called your shot!

Yes, the forgiving part will be particularly odious.

And why it's important to preserve the record!

Exactly, forgiving the Clintons..because they're always bad.

I just don't understand the pure intolerant hate of the Clintons.

I love this job!

Dawn's Right

It's something I've been thinking about since the end of the primaries. Most presidents get to revise their history. Obama already seems to be particularly talented in doing just that, and he's not even president, yet. When he gets the presidency, Hillary Clinton will be a footnote. And with her not even talking about the primaries, it'll be all the more easy to do.

But surely our famously free press...

[bangs head on desk]

It May Have Been "Famously Free"...

...but that don't make it good. ;)

infamously free

of truth.

What would it take to regain a free press again? Someone with Soros-like money, or a consortium, would have to buy back and unmuzzle the media assets, or begin anew from scratch. Would that have been a better investment than buying the presidency? He probably wouldn't think so.

The Republicans and the right wing tried to take Clinton down virtually from day one. This time they may want to distance themselves instead, and let Obama and the Democrats take sole ownership the shitpile. Besides, the storehouse is empty, they need to let the Democrats try to fill it up again. Character assassination is a lot of work. It's got to be worth their while if they're going to do it, and do it right.
