Dodd thinks the health care deform bill could be defeated

Health Care Overhaul Bill Is 'Hanging by a Thread': Dodd

Health care reform is "hanging on by a thread," and one or two votes could determine the outcome of the heavily-debated bill, Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd told CNBC Monday.

The bill passed very narrowly in the House last. All we need is a few progressives to join Kucinich and Massa to oppose this bail out and we can defeat it. Whoever opposes this will have to withstand the wrath of the White House and take the blame for defeating the top priority legislative goal. No easy task, but we only need a few such Representatives.

Dodd

Hopefully he is using his newly found freedom to push for that.

The more cynical view

Is that Dodd is using this to help stir up a frenzy so that Dems can raise more money.

sadly

I think that is closer to the truth.

Considering his promise

to filibuster the telecom/Bushie immunity in the FISA bill, and the fact that he broke his promise when Obama did, I don't have any faith that he'll vote against the Health Whatever bill.

I agree with both of your interpretations.

Time is not on their side.

The longer that debate on the bill drags on, the closer it gets to the primaries in March and the elections in November. It's already clear that nobody wants to run on the health care bill, hence the late start for many of its critical components.

If this drags out past January, it may simply wither as no one wants to be seen voting for or against it.

Except there's the SOTU

The administration is smart to make some bill, any bill by the SOTU make or break. It would be equally nice if an actual progressive said, "Well, it's break, then."

I sure hope that some Dems

are cowardly enough to read Obama's approval numbers, and then ditch him and his Health Whatever plan because they know it will be electoral death for them.

I certainly have no hope that there will be any Senator principled enough to vote against it because it sucks. Oh, if only.

Never vote for people who hate you.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
