Eating Their Own

Ahh, I love the smell of secession in the morning. From today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

The head of the Georgia Christian Coalition ordered the dissolution of a Macon-based affiliate last week, after the affiliate's chairman endorsed Casey Cagle, one of two Republican candidates for lieutenant governor.

Sadie Fields, chairman of the statewide organization, said she pulled the plug on the Middle Georgia Christian Coalition to protect her group's tax-exempt standing — not because she personally backs the other candidate in the primary, Ralph Reed.

Heh, indeedy, to borrow a phrase from somewhere.

Of course this little setback did not prompt any particular crisis of conscience for the leader of this so-called "Christian" group. He did not suddenly take note of the severe shortage of Bible passages condemning women, blacks, gays or freedom, nor did he announce plans to spend every waking minute feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting those in prison or hospital, etc:

Johnston said Monday he has agreed to Fields' demands and will rename his group the Conservative Action Alliance.

But Johnston said he didn't see any difference between what he's done and Fields' action — "other than my place in the food chain."

Hmm, what was that verse about "If you have two coats give one to the poor, and follow me"? He doesn't seem to have gotten to that one yet in his Bible study. Maybe when he does, and can explain to me how his "group" promotes the causes that the Founder of his "faith" said over and over again were the important ones, and perhaps save my Hell-bound agnostic freethinking soul. Till then he's just another stinking power-hungry hypocrite, and we know what the Founder thought about those folks.
