Email is Forever

It’ll be all over the interwebs today, but I just want to make a simple statement: it is beyond insulting that the White House would claim they “can’t find” some of the emails that Congress wants to see. That is ridiculous. First off, emails are forever- you can do your own homework if you don’t know this, but emails and the nature of the net combine to form a, ahem, paper trail that just isn’t that hard for computer experts to follow. Secondly, hello, NSA, CIA, DoD and FBI domestic spying, anyone? They probably have a copy of every email every progressive activist has ever sent stored in triplicate on government servers, and they want us to believe they can’t find their own? Give me a break.

Democrats in Congress must not accept any lame ass excuses. The emails are out there. They can be found.

Subpoena the RNC and its server vendors

Emails and Telephone calls!

Emails and telephone are changed from analog to digital, with routing information and content. A record of these being digital data is NOT protected!!!! They BIG BROTHER HAS THEM SOME all some WHERE!

You can delete emails off your PC but NOT from the servers

And, with a right-click, they say that’s what they did.

However, in a corporation, at least, that doesn’t mean they’ve been deleted from the servers. You can always restore your mail from the servers if you trash your Inbox in Outlook (to some level of accuracy).

Why does the corporation keep the mail? Partly as a form of knowledge management, so crucial information important to the company is not lost. But also for issues of liability: Email may be evidence, for example, of a crime.

Finally, even if the corporation “deletes” the mail from the server, they are sure to move the data to DVD or CD. They would never simply throw it away. The default is archive. Always. And if that’s not the policy of the White House, one would have to ask why.

If the famously disciplined White House, run by America’s first MBA President, hasn’t kept backups, that, to me, is prima facie evidence of criminal behavior. How odd, or not, that in this instance the government is not “run like a business.”

NOTE Never forget that, since the White House privatized its email, that the server guys may have kept their own archives, for their own purposes. That’s why they need to be subpoenaed too.

It's not that easy

…but reading out of order (I think), I commented on it here. You can delete E-mails, but they’ve now admitted that starting in 2004, they took action to make sure it didn’t happen - and yet it did anyway.

Why?

(Some of the ones currently “lost” may be recovered, but we can’t get distracted thinking that they must exist somewhere. Somehow I think there’s nothing turdblossom would love more than stopping an investigation for months searching for something that really has been deleted while the clock quickly runs out. So we keep looking but never get stuck waiting to find them, right?)
