Senate Finance Committe Members Rockefeller and Schumer in May:
“We all know there is not enough money to do all this stuff,” said Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), a Finance Committee member and an Obama supporter, referring to the presidential candidates’ healthcare plans. “What they are doing is … laying out their ambitions.” …
… Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), a member of Senate Democratic leadership and a key Hillary Clinton ally who also sits on the Finance Committee, said he is “not sure we have the big plan on healthcare.”
“Healthcare I feel strongly about, but I am not sure that we’re ready for a major national healthcare plan,” Schumer said.
Apparently to guys like Jay and Chuck, 18,000 Americans dying every year and 45 million Americans without health insurance isn't a crisis worthy of spending Government funds on. But then fixing healthcare is cheaper than fixing Wall Street.
To give every American insurance under Clinton's plan, which was one of the options on the table at the time these statements were made, would cost $124 billion or about 10% of the estimated bailout of Wall Street.
HR 676 would reduce the total costs Americans pay for healthcare from 1.918 trillion to 1.861 trillion.
But when giving every American healthcare was under discussion it was just too much money for the Government to spend. Because saving lives isn't worth 10% of the cost of saving Wall Street. That's the message the Democrats will be sending if they approve this package. Is that what you want Nancy and Harry?

good catch
the talk of money is just an excuse!
And
since health care expenses are a major cause of bankruptcies, that $124 billion for health care would also be reducing the foreclosures that led to the mess on Wall Street in the first place.
Right, but this way the bankers get your house!
So what's not to like?

Right! Along with all those freed up to innovate
In the energy areas, because they won't be tied to jobs that stifle them because of health care issues.
Think of the springing up of innovation that will occur when people aren't scared to death of not getting health care when they need it! There will be new small businesses starting up overnight.

totally--too many stay put in jobs they don't like
bec of the health insurance, which is usually lousy anyway.
and businesses would save billions and billions by not being involved.
