Make the bad man stop harshing the mellow:
Though it hasn't happened yet, it is appearing increasingly likely that Senate Democrats -- led by Barack Obama (who seems to be playing a much more active role in all of this than his spokesperson yesterday suggested) -- are going to choose Joe Lieberman to serve as their Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in the next Congress. If that happens, there will be one important silver lining: it will remind many people, who have understandably forgotten due to the euphoria last week, exactly what most Beltway Democrats are, what their priorities and beliefs are, and to whose opinions and concerns they do and do not pay attention.
It is worth remembering that the Democrats who are going to exert dominant political control are the same ones who have provoked so much scorn -- rightfully so -- over the last several years, and particularly since 2006. This is the same Democratic Party leadership which funded the Iraq War without conditions (and voted to authorize it in the first place); massively expanded the President's warrantless eavesdropping powers; immunized lawbreaking telecoms; enacted the Patriot Act and then renewed it with virtually no changes; didn't even bother to mount a filibuster to stop the Military Commissions Act; refrained from pursuing any meaningful investigations of Bush lawbreaking; confirmed every last extremist Bush nominee, from Michael McConnell to Michael Mukasey; acquiesced to even the worst and most lawless Bush policies when they were briefed on them; and on and on and on. None of that has changed. That is still who they are.
Hasn't he read the 2008 Democratic Platform, which states that "a great nation now demands that its leaders abandon the politics of partisan division..."? Surely, the same must apply to dirty-hippie bloggers!

I am sorry
but I have to giggle a little at this.
I remember the vitriol against Lieberman at DK and the campaign of destruction which was non stop on the 'progressive blogs'. So here we are.
I am not affirming Lieberman nor his politics of change but you have to wonder what good did all that negative energy really do.
I have to admit that I will never forgive the abuse of Clinton and although I dislike Lieberman's politics and still think he helped lose Gore the election, I feel a little smug about this.
At least Lieberman isn't divisive!

Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Commi
Why is he being rewarded a chairmanship, at all, and especially Homeland Security? I can understand keeping him in the caucus, but he should have no kind of power over foreign relations and security, period. Now, these are just rumors, and I hope like hell that they aren't true. Joe practically belongs with the GOP on issues of war, peace, and security.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
The bizarro logic of the "new" Democratic Party
Lieberman:
1. Votes with Republicans most of time
2.Campaigns vigorously for Republican presidential candidate
3. Gets to keep his standing in the Democratic caucus, AND his plum committee chairmanship
Hillary Clinton
1. Votes with progressive Democrats most of the time.
2. Despite being attacked and insultued, sucks it up for party unity and campaigns her ass off for Obama.
3. Cold-shouldered by Ted Kennedy for Senate leadership role in health care; most likely ignored for Obama's cabinet
Consistent with how they ran the presidential campaign
* Reach out to new voters, who won't consistently vote for downticket Dems;
* Blow off longtime Dem voters, who will vote for downticket Dems.

I posted yesterday
about the email from Jane at FDL which called for giving Lieberputz the boot.
FISA was a huge nasty-tasting sandwich for the Obama supporters. Wonder what this latest morsel tastes like?
What has Obama done to please so-called dems besides getting elected?
If you look at Obama's life, there is very little he has done
except get elected. He gets elected president of Harvard Law Review and proceeds to do nothing with it - he does not publish a single piece or distinguish himself and his tenure as president in any fashion. He graduates from law school, does a voter reg drive and then goes to Bali for several months to write his book. Comes back, goes to work for a civil rights law firm and does not lead on a single case. As an attorney working for a civil rights firm in Chicago, Obama can not find a single civil rights case that need his help. Chairs the non-profit with Ayres, hands out grants but gets no good results. Gets elected to the Illinois state senate and does not have ONE SINGLE piece of legislation signed for the first five years. His contributions are limited to adding two amendments to bills other people wrote and for which Emil Jones requested his assistance. Despite the fact that the Illinois senate only meets 55 days per year, refuses to release his schedule for those years. Decides to run for the US senate, and gets Emil Jones to put his name on legislation being created by others and on new issues that come up - nothing that has his name on it in Illinois law is a result of his initiative on behalf of others. It all legislation that is his by virtue of the fact that he needs a resume for his run for the US senate. He accepts authorship of legislation that other state senators have worked and carried for years - most notably, Ricky Hendon's billl that mandates the police must videotape confessions. Gets elected to the US senate when the Illinois Republicans mysteriously cannot find a Republican in the entire state of illinois to run against an unknown state senator and thus, are forced to import a mentally defective nutbag from Maryland three months before the election. He gets into the US Senate, and does virtually nothing. He has two bills signed into law - an improvement over his previous record. One of them changes the name of a post office. The other is slightly less insignificant. He adds a few amendments to bills that other people write as well.
Obama has never done anything that should make Democrats think that he is a Democrat too, much less please them. It's the most cynical resume I've ever seen. Not a single action on behalf of others that does not benefit him even more. Not a single action for which he incurred the risk before the pay off.
I guess the hope he is offering up is that even if you're a narcissitic thug who has never accomplished anything or mastered a single issue, you can still become a Democratic president of the US despite the fact that you've never actually done anything worthwhile in your life.
