GOTV, Distributed Online Network Style

Even my lazy butt found the energy to participate in Move On’s “Call For Change” GOTV effort today. It really is easy as Pi. You can sign up and get started instantly to call in the next 2 days.

From the comfort of my San Francisco apartment I made 33 calls in an hour to people in battleground districts. These are people who would never read blogs but now know somebody somewhere gives a damn about how they vote on Tuesday.

3 people I talked to were very interesting:

The question in the script was: “do you think the country is headed in the right direction?”

Victim #1 (somewhere in PA): “No, and I’m a Republican! It’s the way the tax cuts went to the rich people, the deficit… and the war, the war, the war”.

Victim #2 (somewhere in VA): “No, it’s this war in Iraq. My son just left for his fourth tour there.”

Victim #3 (somehwere in VA): “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman”.

Arg. It’s hard to get around Rovian mind-parasites, but the calls were mainly going to registered Dems to get them to the polls.
