that we need to be exhorted to be graceful… an accurate translation would be “bend over and quit bitching… don’t worry, you’re gonna love it.”
and that is where I first understood the need to tell a Mormon
to step right the hell off my case.
He had the unmitigated gall to tell me that as a wife and mother it was my duty to give up my job and support my husband in his career.
A nonexistent entity, not just at that time but at any time since; I am thankful, and not just in hindsight, that that marriage barely lasted two more months. Of course, the job barely lasted six weeks after this exchange…

Never been asked to; apparently, one look at me and any thought of encouraging “graceful” was seen as not worth the effort. A genetic defect, something about a Y chromosome, so I expect full sympathy for my lack. In physiological compensation, however, I can lift and tote with the best of them so my culturally assigned gender expectations are easily met.
