Grey Lady airbrushes Ann Coulter's oddly prominent Adams Apple

lambert's picture

As we all know, Ann Coulter's protruberant Adam's Apple called John Edwards a faggot at the conservatives' annual Konklave, CPAC. But you'd never know that from Beltway Teabagger Adam Nagourney's "coverage". Here's what he writes about Le Coulter's slur:

*** crickets ***

*** crickets ***

*** crickets ***

Of course, Nagourney does "report" that the audience thought Willard Mitt Romney was terrific:

“[Romney] knocked this speech out of the park,” said Paloma A. Zepeda, a marketing consultant and conservative blogger who said she came into the room with “serious doubts” about Mr. Romney, and left saying she was leaning toward supporting him. By contrast, she said, Mr. Giuliani “took a risk by coming to C.P.A.C., and he managed to not allay a single conservative fear about a Giuliani candidacy.”

So, faced with the opportunity to actually ask a conservative a challenging question what does Nags do?

Well, nothing.

After all, it wouldn't be civil to ask smooth, nice-guy Willard Mitt Romney a question like this, for example:

Q: Mr. Romney, do you believe that the media--and specifically FOX "news"--should repudiate Ann Coulter's statement that John Edwards is a faggot by cancelling her existing bookings and refusing to book her again?

And a followup:

Q: Mr. Romney, here's a simple yes or no question. Do you believe that Leviticus 20:13 has any relevance at all to public policy in the year 2007?

And a followup:

Q: Mr. Romney, do you believe that closeted gay Repuiblicans should be outed and removed from office?

Now, maybe these questions just aren't deferential enough for Nags. But you'd think he could work up his courage to at least mention the story to the conservatives at CPAC, and get some reactions.

But n-o-o-o-o-o!

UPDATE Now Nags actually writes the story. Sorta. All the candidates are issuing statements blah blah blah. It would still be nice to see some of the questions I raise above asked, if not answered.

"Mugged by Conservative Reality"

Uggabugga

Quiddity lists the illuminati who wagged their fingers at Coulter's fag comment: Malkin, Hewitt, Morrissey, etc. And here's Sullivan with a new pair of glasses:

...seeing her live in front of a young, cheering crowd made me feel a lot less complacent. Being a gay man in a crowd that cheers a woman denigrating someone for being a "faggot" is an educative experience. Seeing college kids line up to worship her tore me up. These kids deserve better. They're young and smart enough to be interested in conservatism - and this is what they are getting? From a stage where two presidential candidates just spoke? I guess I've been a bit of a smug ironist who just got mugged by conservative reality.

Ann is the personification

Ann is the personification of the "mean-spirited Republican". I wonder where this homophobia is coming from?? I guess she is trying to solidify the right wing Protestant conservative Christian Nazi base.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
