GWB43.com: Fox Investigating The Henhouse Edition

Get a load of this:

The head of the federal agency investigating Karl Rove's White House political operation is facing allegations that he improperly deleted computer files during another probe, using a private computer-help company, Geeks on Call.

Scott Bloch runs the Office of Special Counsel, an agency charged with protecting government whistleblowers and enforcing a ban on federal employees engaging in partisan political activity. Mr. Bloch's agency is looking into whether Mr. Rove and other White House officials used government agencies to help re-elect Republicans in 2006.

At the same time, Mr. Bloch has himself been under investigation since 2005. At the direction of the White House, the federal Office of Personnel Management's inspector general is looking into claims that Mr. Bloch improperly retaliated against employees and dismissed whistleblower cases without adequate examination.

Recently, investigators learned that Mr. Bloch erased all the files on his office personal computer late last year. They are now trying to determine whether the deletions were improper or part of a cover-up, lawyers close to the case said.

So, to recap: Karl Rove is accused of retaliating against employees and then illegally deleting the evidence. The man in charge of investigating him is accused of retaliating against employees and then deleting evidence.

Fuck. This. Shit.

Wait, though, it gets better!

Mr. Bloch believes the White House may have a conflict of interest in pressing the inquiry into his conduct while his office investigates the White House political operation.

Now that is some serious political jujitsu. I'll hand it to the man. The White House should recuse itself from investigating him!

Geeks on Call visited Mr. Bloch's government office in a nondescript office building on M Street in Washington twice, on Dec. 18 and Dec. 21, 2006, according to a receipt reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. The total charge was $1,149, paid with an agency credit card, the receipt shows. The receipt says a seven-level wipe was performed but doesn't mention any computer virus.

Jeff Phelps, who runs Washington's Geeks on Call franchise, declined to talk about specific clients, but said calls placed directly by government officials are unusual. He also said erasing a drive is an unusual virus treatment. "We don't do a seven-level wipe for a virus," he said.

I've gotta stop this, in the interests of Fair Use. But does anyone else find it a tiny bit suspicious that a Republican is paying a guy named Jeff - who runs a service called "Geeks on Call" - over a thousand dollars for maybe two hours of work?

Yeah, I'll bet he "wiped" some hard "drives."

Geeks & Lawyers--Will Anybody Respect the Law?

What would a competent lawyer have to say about this? Isn't it illegal for anyone to destroy government records & communications?

If Bloch or Rove spotted me walking down the street, beckoned me over, and offered to pay me to burn some documents, wouldn't I be breaking the law if I accepted the deal?

the middle man

We need to really, really put the business hurtin' on Geeks On Call. Maybe when their business is in shambles from boycotts and citizen investigations, they will go whistleblower.

What about hiring them everyday until you get someone who admits to being at the WH. And yes, I'm tlaking waterboarding, which is WH approved.

Slow down. Take a breath.

Why would you blame geeks on call? Seems like they did the job they were called to do. What were they supposed to do...a bad job? And a 1000. bill for 7 level wipe is well within reason.

It's not about blaming them

It's about ending the predictable coverup. Nobody in the Cheney Administration will ever talk about their crimes, and when they do, they will lie. So you go after the guys they hire. Sucks for them, but they knew full well what they were getting into when some government cretin called them up spouting jargon out of his field (do most of them really know who to ask to do the digital version of the 18-minute gap?) and asking them to do some work on the hush-hush. And they knew damn well that there was no "virus", I guarantee you.

Wouldn't you be a little hesitant about that job, honestly?

But I still believe
And I will rise up with fists!!

Bloch

Is this the same Bloch from H & R Block income tax?
