gwb43.com Friday Follies: A New DoJ Document Dump!

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's Friday night and you aint' got nobody, you got some money cuz you just got paid, how you wish you had someone to talk to, you're in an awful way...oh waitaminit, that's Saturday night. Never mind.*

New DoJ Docco Dump over at Josh's Place. Should you be sufficiently bored, determined to restore Constitutional government, or out of beer, give it a look-through and help them compile Things That Need To Be Noted.

It's a PDF file as usual just to make it more of a pain in the ass so you won't look at it. Are you gonna fall for that cheesy a tactic? I didn't think so.

*It's a song. An old song. Just a joke. Ha ha. Yeah, you never heard of it...you kids and that stuff you call music today, I shake my head in sorrow...now you kids get off my lawn dammit and go read through files of Justice emails. Thank you.

Why, yes, it makes perfect sense for nonpartisan officials who represent all Americans to refer to... friendlies. As opposed to those hostile citizens. I wonder who they're talking about...

Talking points, talking points

What's interesting is the way they're trying to haze over "politicizing." (See eg page 24)

They mean "has political experience." (Translation: "Everybody does it.")

We mean "is using the criminal justice system to effect election outcomes."

The distinction was originally made by Josh Marshall, I think, but it hasn't filtered out to the press. The Dems really need to hammer this one. Not everybody tries to have office holders arrested and charged on ginned up evidence for a bump in the polls before election day. Only Republicans do that.

No authoritarians were tortured in the writing of this post.

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi

The converse is worse of course

I hate to sound like that Vitorin (tm) ad (anticholesterol medication whose tagline is an incessant repetition of "There's two kinds of cholesterol, one from food and the other from family history" which is what they say because apparently "genetics" is too complicated a word to use in commercials) but there are two points to Josh's Distinction here:

--the one you cite, ginning up "voter fraud" or other crap charges against Democratic candidates. Or more often "liberal" organizations like MoveOn or ACORN doing voter drives, because they target young people and the poor and you know how Those People always vote.

--and the other, stalling investigations of Republicans, sometimes candidates but more often actual officeholders, so as to keep news of their misdeeds out of the public press until after an election. This of course is nobly described as "refusing to politicize the investigative process" when used as this way.

This, please note, is pure Rovianism. ALWAYS accuse your opponent of doing EXACTLY what you yourself are doing, thereby making any counterclaim on the part of the victim of the tactic sound like whiny "Mommmmm, He Hit Me First" childishness.

Of course its the second that is now rising up from the vasty deep with teeth sparkling greenly in the brightening sun, getting ready to bite them in the ass. But you're right, we need to push harder to get Josh's Distinction out as a talking point. We don't necessarily need to get the finer distinctions understood as long as the wider principle that "these guys have been pulling strings on people we're supposed to be able to trust" sinks in. On top of the history of Iraq, Katrina, and The Economic Calamity That Dare Not Speak Its Name (housing down, gas and food through the roof) this should not be that hard a sell.

Wow

Evidently I somehow passed over the real money quote.
