Because if it's not a National Holiday, it should be!
UPDATE And if you want to see how our famously free press handled the story, see Editor & Publisher. Why, all our old friends are there! Lizzie "Girl Reporter" Bumiller, Judy "Kneepads" Miller, Michael Gordon, MoDo, David Sanger... The fuhrergefluffen is totally out of control. E&P also prints some letters to the editor. And you know what? All the Times reporters exhibit massive suckage. And all the letter writers are prescient. What a surprise!
And the amazing part is that all the reporters--with the exception of Judy Miller, who was apparently just too, too egregious--all have their extremely well-paying jobs....

Here's to the workers
Great post Lambert. Funny enough, this is a huge national holiday here in Brazil. The first of May is the Dia do Trabalhadores. - National Worker's Day. So this afternoon, while I sit here on my peaceful little island, looking at the Atlantic contemplating a Caipirinha, I will be thinking about the tens of thousands of young Americans who are serving in the military and working for contractors in the hell that is Iraq. Here's to ya kids. Be well. Get home soon.
We're killing their children.
The minds and hearts come along with the kids, is that our reasoning?
'The death of civilians has been a major issue in Afghanistan, with Nato saying in January that its biggest mistake in 2006 had been the killing of innocent people.
The alliance has been accused of carelessness over civilian lives when attacking Taleban fighters. '
