Happy Day of Shame!

The presents are wrapped, you’ve taken satellite photos of the trees — and experts have determined that they’re arboreal weapons labs.

That can only mean one thing: today is America’s Day of Shame.

Four years ago today, Colin Powell played Three-Card Monte with the mainstream media and took ’em for everything they had, which turns out to include our kids’ lives and limbs and any chance for peace in the Middle East.

And Powell Still Hasn't Been Held Accountable

Not really. Yes, the luster on his moderate credentials shines less brightly, but the press continues to pretend he’s a man of integrity and stature.

That’s because the press refuses to hold itself responsible for it’s own response to that snow job.

Making today a Day of Shame is a start; your post is also a good answer to the many comments seen through-out the left/center blogisphere asking why so many bloggers and commentators get so exited about guys like Chris Mattthews and Joe Kline; why we bother countering Michele Malkin, or Mickey Kaus, or Martin Peretz. Because they still control the narrative more than we do.

That needs to change. We’ve made some progress, but I’ve long felt that John Kerry was defeated as much by the press as Al Gore was in 2000; well, maybe not quite as much; in 2000 the mainstream press signed on to Bush’s campaign, and then told us we should be amused.

It’s still so bad, I’m beginning to wonder if we ought to be considering some direct action; maybe the day of large demonstrations is past; I’m not saying yes, but part of the problem with those is that the message gets so confused.

But what if teams of people took it upon themselves, with a little organizational help, to stand outside of some of our major media and hand out circulars that point out, the way Media Matters does, the skewed outlook they are getting, and not skewed toward the left.

Sorry, what was that word?

What is this “accountable” of which you speak?

No authoritarians were tortured in the writing of this post.

Lambert, don't you know that...

… we’re in the era of personal responsibility?

Sarah,

Fair.org has some interesting stuff about Powell’s peaceful, moderate credentials.

And as you may know, the Daily Howler is your one-stop shopping spot for details on how the media sabotaged Al Gore.

I wish people would adopt the “Never Forget” mantra about this thing. There is so much blood on the media’s hands for cheerleading for this unnecessary and disastrous war.

Thanks for weighing in!

I’ll be posting more on Day of Shame about the media meltdown in a little bit….
