Hatecrime bill OK’d
Chris Casteel
Washington Bureau
•That sentiment has been voiced by some Christian groups, including the Southern Baptist Convention, which charge that the bill would create “thought crimes.” Some have suggested that the bill could make ministers liable for things they say to their congregations about gays and lesbians.
How is that churches feel compelled to argue that they have a right to preach hate speech?
In fact the proposed law does not restrict anyones right to hate speech - it only expands the list of hate crimes.
This response by the SBC smacks of pure hypocrisy. Since when does your religion give you a bye wrt the law? Not that the law restricts hates speech, but if it did, why would you, and a follower of Jesus, even want one?

HATE & religion
I have been of the opinion for some time now that Hate
& religion seem to be drawing ever closer. Religion as i see it practiced isn’t what it is written to be. Now days ’men’ use the words of religion as a means to an end and the end is something that these men wish to attain for themselves and those within their individual small circles. Religion is now (often) used as a tool for achieving an agenda, nothing more…
“How is that churches
“How is that churches feel compelled to argue that they have a right to preach hate speech?”
Because it’s not hate speech? How is it hate speech to preach against homosexual sin anymore than it is to preach against heterosexual adultry? There’s no difference whatsoever, and claiming such will not get anywhere without causing just as many issues on the other side for attempting to erode religious freedom and inflict censorship.
It’s more likely to violate the rights of the preacher than protect homosexuals from personal harm.
In Sweden, Pastor Ake Green was indicted, convicted and sentenced to 30 days because of a hate crime violation. Pastor Greens simply read from the Bible and gave the Bible’s view on homosexual practices at his Borgholm, Sweden church. No riots were incited or accounts of personal brutality towards gays occurred after his statements. He was punished based upon statements he made in a normal weekly service.
In Canada, a Catholic city councilor was fined $1,000 for simply restating the church’s teaching on homosexuality. His personal beliefs were deemed “hate speech” under Canada’s hate crimes law.
These seem reasonable? I think not.
“How is that churches feel compelled to argue ..."
that they have a right to preach hate speech?”
the same thing that lets the KKK say and do the same things. See the ACLU intervention for the KKK in Skokie. Free Speech…
The exception would (rightly) be if they were receiving ANY benefit from the State. Then give ’em a choice: Shut the fuck up, or return the money.
Me? A Quick Study, But A Slow Learner
Hey, I wouldn't take the word of a Christianist on anything
Let alone a Christianist
who doesn’t give links with his horror stories.
Smarter trolls, please.
