Help Senator Dodd with suggestions of what to read during his FISA filibuster tomorrow

lambert's picture

Yes, Dodd's filibustering on FISA tomorrow. (You can whip your Senators here.)

What should Dodd read during the filibuster? That is, besides the complete United States Constitution?

I'll start:

The Federalist Papers, especially #47:

The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, selfappointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.

I can't believe Reid won't honor Dodd's hold, but honors holds from Republican Senators. So much for all that respect for procedure and tradition, eh?

At the risk of forming an infinite loop...

I do hope he'll read from Glenn the good.

1984?

Especially the parts about the telescreens and "Big Brother is Watching."

can we send him stuff? should we?

links to stuff his staff could print out, or something?

what would i like him to read? letters from soldiers in iraq, perhaps some reports about corruption by MIC contractors, you know, in full and hoary detail. he should also throw in a little humor; there are many books detailing the stupidity of the preznit from which he could quote. the founders are always good too.

We should send him pizza

Wasn't there a campaign to do this for some other person/group awhile back (yeah, I know, great detail there; it is early and it's Monday and well, there you have it) who was protesting something somewhere. People sent just about any sort of food and drink that you can get delivered and order with a credit card.

Can delivery people go on the floor of Congress? Maybe a campaign to send stuff, combined with a heads-up to a local TV news producer, would accomplish the goal of gaining attention whether Dodd receives it or not. The chow could be handed out to others on the scene (reporters, staffers--all people whose good opinion it is always nice to cultivate) or redirected to the homeless shelter closest to Capitol Hill.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
