Hey, remember the "summer job"?

lambert's picture

Forget that. BLS:

This year, the share of [employed youth 16 to 24 years old] in July was 48.9 percent, the lowest July rate on record for the series, which began in 1948. (The month of July typically is the summertime peak in youth employment.) Unemployment among youth increased by 571,000 between April and July , about half as much as in each of the two previous summers.

Nice to see The Big O totally screwing over his own demo, too.* I mean, so much for the whole hope and change thing, eh? Meanwhile, in Versailles, inequality increases apace:

.... More would-be interns paying thousands to land a coveted spot . Unpaid. Who can afford that, these days? Well, (a sugar?) Daddy or Mummy, for sure.

So if you thought Versailles was already run, or at least serviced, by trust fund babies, just wait.

NOTE * Is Obama a Republican mole? Numbers like that make me think the Lightbringer was sent not to fulfill but to destroy the Ds. Not that they weren't doing a great job of that all on their own -- Hi Harry! Hi Nancy! [waves] -- but Obama seems to have the reverse Midas touch, doesn't he? At least, for everyone but the banksters, the health insurance parasites, the telcos, Big Oil....

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.

Random term

The Village is the few thousand people inside the Beltway who control the political life of the country; they are responsible for managing the Overton Window, for example. They are thoroughly bi-partisan. They all know each other, and they all fuck each other (both senses). The term "Village" (my term was Versailles on the Potomac) captures their provincialism, their pettiness, and how small (all senses) they really are. I believe Village is also the name of a horror movie that Digby had in mind.

I support Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Americans United is dedicated to preserving the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure religious freedom for all Americans.
