Hillary schools Petraeus back in January*
For example, sure, Bosnia, despite what she calls the “derision” of the Republicans of that time, was a more just war, and a more well-conducted war, than Iraq. And the sheer craziness of the Bushies is shown, as if we need to show it again, by their refusal to make use of a war that protected Muslims from ethnic cleansing as a tool of soft power in the Muslim world.
But I don’t think I want to accept the frame anymore that what we need to do is go around the globe fighting good endless wars well, instead of fighting insane wars badly (“badly” except from the perspective of the loyal Bushies who are making out like bandits on it, that is).
Maybe we’ll never get Hillary to apologize for her vote to hand a drunk the keys to the war machine. But we can look to the future: Does she support permanent bases in Iraq? What about the absurd embassy? And so forth.
The UK isn’t such bad place to live, you know—Even if they did lose their empire.
NOTE Via Andrew Sullivan. As I said, “A candidate the Beltway can love.”
NOTE * Some Kremlinologist should compare medals then and medals now. There certainly are a lot of them.
