How to obstruct debate on health care reform

Obama Names Daschle to Head Health Reform Effort

President-elect Barack Obama announced former Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle as his pick to head the Health and Human Services agency Thursday.

Daschle will also oversee a new White House Office of Health Reform and be charged to fulfilling Mr. Obama's campaign pledge to take a fresh look at the nation's health care woes.

Daschle told reporters he's looking to implement health care reform from the "grass roots up."

Mr. Obama also fielded several questions on the corruption claims surrounding Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who prosecutors allege had attempted to profit off of the naming of a replacement for the president-elect's vacant Senate seat.

First they were marginalizing single payer advocates, now our celebrity press corps is obstructing the entire debate on health care. Shame on them. Shame on them.

I don't like the sound of that one bit

"Daschle told reporters he's looking to implement health care reform from the 'grass roots up.'"

What part of single payer doesn't he understand?

Susan Denzer sees health scheme where private insurers bid to

offer standardized plans in marketplace. With, perhaps, a way to get into government groups as well. On NewsHour.

(Are the Obama "house party" meetings on healthcare really only being held last two weeks of December? What's with that timing? Deliberate timing to limit number of people able to take part?)

Denzer sees center jelling around these ideas.

No mention of single payer so far.

Did mention that Obama said we can't afford not to do something bcz of economic downturn.

Says Obama aides saying this won't happen any time soon. So many details to work out. Will have to be phased in....too much debt. Not until economy begins to recover. Which belies what Obama said just today! Damn. And damn misleading talk from any pol about something this crucial.

SCHIP has to be reauthorized. Could be what's done this year. Make health record IT part of stimulus package. But, not all real fast.

Oh, frack me.

That is all for now. Disappointed? I can't summon up the energy.

Just one thing: don't underestimate the value of talking up single payer amongst your friends and co-workers. Act locally, think globally, that's my motto. Here is a good flyer from Physicians For a National Health Plan NY [pdf]: and see also SickoCure.org.

We can't afford not to have single-payer!
