How to get Senator Jay Rockefeller's office to hang up on you

Just call (202) 224-6472 and ask the simple, courteous question:

Is this the number I call to get retroactive immunity for illegal acts?

Call now! And again, be courteous!

Just good, clean fun…

NOTE Numbers via FDL. I mean, I can well imagine that many of us could use retroactive immunity for one thing or another. So if the telcos get it, why shouldn’t we?

Do it, it's fun!

I encourage you to call. It’s surprisingly fun!

i did it, too, and it's true: They hang up on you...

Sumbitch!
who’da figgered an official in the office of a US Senator would just hang up on a person?

Me? A Quick Study, But A Slow Learner

I used to be an intern for

I used to be an intern for a congressman, and that is who is answering the phone, a young 20 something, NOT getting paid, you’re just pissing them off, you’re not making any statement to the Senator, because when you piss off the messenger, they don’t deliver the message.

Dear ex-intern...

..can I assume you progressed up the career path as far as afternoon manager of a pizza joint (I’m guessing Dominos here) from which position you got fired for hanging up on people trying to order food?

If those interns are working there, un- or at best low-paid, which I’m sure is the case, it would make as much sense for them not to pass along the content of the calls they were answering as it would for you to ignore the orders for pepperoni and double cheese. Which raises the question of why they are working there at all?

This is not the case of answering the phone to somebody screaming abuse and obscenities at you. It’s people calling about a specific issue, which is soon to be in front of the Senator’s attention in the form of a vote. For which he is going to have to answer, first to the media and ultimately to the voters.

He/she is damn well going to come through the office on a regular basis (okay, the chief of staff is, but work with me here) and ask all these wee interns “What are people calling about?” Your claim that the interns would refuse to answer, or make something up or…what exactly ARE you claiming they’d do anyway? because they found the (calm, polite but pointed) subject addressed objectionable strikes me as implausible.

Faaaaaabulous

I’m calling that freak, my Sen Bill Nelson today.
