How will Obama solve his management problem with his sexist chief speechwriter Jon Favreau?

Salon's Broadsheet still silent over Favreau

I admit, I'm surprised (Maybe I missed it?). I don't see them as unflinching on gender as this or other blogs (e.g., Shakesville, Twisty), but still...

I swear, I was just about to stop reading about this incident, which still bothers the hell out of me, and then I see Carville on CNN ridiculing anyone who has a problem with it to get a "sense of humor." So I'm all pissed again.

Remember, kids: being offended, even downright outraged, at someone not laughing at what you find funny is not at all at odds with mocking people for being too easily offended. Oh, and I might add: attacking people who are so hyper-sensitive about gender that they find femaleness offensive in itself and simply must degrade it risks being seen as...oversensitive.

Jesus.

OK, I'm done now. Seriously.

Yep, straight to 'complimenting on his sense of humor'

And to think I had voted "mildly admonish".... So I provided some humor of my own below.

Anway, there you have it, BIO is now the spokesman for the Village. Nothing to see here folks, just move along, the adults grown man babies are in charge.

I'm not such a bad guy once you get to know me.

Carville, eh?

Well, that's the word, then.

Ick. Rollback complete, I would say! Well done, all!

Obama should stick that

cardboard cutout in a place in Favreau's body that lacks any sunshine.

Favreau sounds French. Grrrrrrrrrr. Off with his haid.

John Favreau

He should fire him, ASAP

Obama will ignore us "knitters"

We just cling to our lying eyes anyway. Besides, everyone knows safeguarding the basic human rights and civil liberties of women and girls is to be taken as seriously an issue as mere etiquette lessons (e.g., overt bigotry is simply "misbehavior" or "disrespect").

How odd that Katha Pollitt just two days before the "Isn't violent hate, like, so awesome?!" incident, put up an article titled, "Barack Obama, Feminist in Chief?" in which she argues that Obama should make gender equality a top issue and takes note how not all the ladies seem to lovin' Obama (emphasis mine):

Somehow the feminist positions Obama has taken--on reproductive rights, pay equity, domestic violence, Title IX--don't seal the deal. And neither does his support for healthcare and unions and early childhood education and raising the minimum wage--things that, while not gender-specific, will enormously improve the lives of women, perhaps even more than they improve the lives of men.

I don't share the suspicions, the sense of disappointment-in-advance.

Whew! Thank God she wasn't ever suspicious of the man, not even "periodically." Next, she'll write an article about the need to convince Tancredo that he should use his retirement from Congress to fight for the rights of undocumented immigrants. I mean, there's no reason to be suspicious of him, right?*

*I just want to make clear: policies do matter but they're incredibly undermined, at best, if a culture of hate is allowed to flourish, let alone encouraged.

You can't view the poll options...

.....in Internet Explorer. They just come across as grey lines with polls options in text above. I saw it this morning and thought it was just Correntian snark until I checked in it Chrome.

Do you mean the bullet points?

That are the questions?

Or the results?

Blankety-blank poll module, always a problem...

Yeah...

...there are no bullet points on Internet explorer (hence no option to vote), but shows up just fine on Chrome and Firefox.

Blankety Blankety Technology....I'm almost in the dark ages I feel....

Hate

I haz it.

It's a real poll

I just voted. So now you all know how I voted. So much for the secret ballot!

A student of mine approached me after class to ask what I think about l'affaire Favreau. I was impressed that an undergraduate had seen the photo and was aware of the controversy. But then, I've seen her attend lectures on "the pornification of modern American political culture," so this kind of thing is her bag. For the record, she think he should be $hitcanned.

Senior Undergraduate here....

......and been fuming about the situation all weekend. But maybe it's because I'm an older returning student that these things matter to me (snark).

By the by....your blog and Corrente are my two main reads.

I can hide that...

Sorry about that.

How do I vote

Or is this just snark?

OK, now it shows up as a poll, it was just the results when I first saw it.
