Huckabee speaking at NRA convention (CNN)

“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak,” said the former Arkansas governor, to audience laughter. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

Ugh, is that what passes for

And thank you for the exclusive, it makes us feel so special! :-)

just his folksy downhome charm--

he's still welcome on all the shows--they love him.

he's definitely McCain's VP, from what i hear.

intranets's picture

I don't get it

It's one thing to threaten to shoot anyone who doesn't vote for you. Or to tell your opponents to slit their wrists. This guy is obsessed with death. I'm betting they bring back the duel.

How can you make jokes about pointing a gun at a presidential candidate.

Richard Pryor had a routine "The First Black President"

where he gives a speech "My fellow Americans . . ." while ducking and weaving.

It was funny then. Now, told by a white man, not so much.

Only Confirms What I Always Knew

Huckabee is a prick masquerading as a nice guy and conservatives have lousy senses of humor.

Ugh

And in my hometown too.

I never did get it when the media was saying he had such a great sense of humor.

And, VP. No thank you. That might actually get me to vote for Obama.

speaking of jokes,

if anyone does try to shoot him, i'm 100% sure the media will joke that Hillary is behind it. Huckabee is really no worse than what passes for serious adult political talk nowadays.

(at work we had talked about whether it would happen--and the consensus was that someone will definitely try it, but not until he's definitely the nominee and there's a real chance he'll be president)

Sheeeeeit

That is some funny stuff those Repukes come up with, yes?

vastleft's picture

WTF!?

What is the gist of this "joke"?

Unlike a manly Republican, he doesn't want a gun pointed at him?

What a sick-ass world these freaks live in.

FrenchDoc's picture

Wow, it does take a whole lot of

assholishness only Republicans can muster to bring VL out of exile!

Also looks stage

Is it me or did it not look like an accident. I can't tell if the noise is a person in the audience tripping over a chair or something back stage.

Maybe this is as fast as his pea-sized brain works.

Uh... Obama joke.. uh oh not funny about climbing a chair... hmmm this is the NRA make a gun joke...

Obama fell over a chair?

I thought it was the sound of a trapdoor opening as Huckabee's son lynched a dog.

He jokes about someone pointing a gun at Obama. At an NRA confab. And the angels wept.

One other note: Huckabee employs about fifteen misdirections. He says he doesn't like it when (paraphrased) 'they say that those who own firearms are more likely to commit a crime.' Who are "they" exactly? The Straw Man Coalition? He also stated (vis a vis the nation's founders) that "the ideal government would be self-government" which means, when taken literally, that our government should be run by foreigners (for are not Americans the actors of "self-government?"). Did he ever suggest such a thing when Newt's majority held sway? If we don't have a government then we can all just behave nicely and the corporations will take care of the details, the rights of the minority against the tyranny of the majority, the right for a redress of grievances, the right to face one's accusers? He is not a serious person. He is ten pounds of feces in a five pound bag.

He goes on to suggest that the founders thought we should "look to our own hearts and instincts." So no need for preachers and bronze age absolutes, yes? I don't think he hears himself. I don't think I should have to either. ++++

It also has a racial subtext

Oh, I'm sure that the Huckster, and BTW, when he was playing the good-guy good-conservative governor, he was still a huckster, wasn't dog-whistling a deliberately racist tune. But his intention was clearly to demean Obama, and I'm sure it just came naturally to him to reach for the image of the nervous, quick moving, quick-to-panic jivester, without dignity, always ready to be put in his place in the face of real power, white power, symbolized in this case by the gun, but just as easily by a hank of rope, because said black man is so easily...let's see, how should we put this...so easily spooked? Yes, I think that covers it nicely, in the nasty way that racism always does.

vastleft, yes, that is exactly the joke.

love that trap door image MJS.

Great comments everyone.

Ted Nugent

At the NRA Convention.

My best friend works as a concierge at a high dollar hotel here in Louisville that is housing many of the attendees of the convention. Many returned to the hotel and informed him that, in addition to advocating violence at the convention, he also called upon members to assassinate Clinton.

Who as it turns out was also staying at the same hotel.

I haven't seen any media coverage, and Google is failing me. Part of me believes that if he truly said something like this, the media would be all over it, but the media has also proven that they will ignore anything about Clinton, so I can't vouch for it.
