Can someone explain this to me?
According to Tweety & the Gang, it’s no big deal for David Bellavia to compare Barack Obama to Tiger Woods, because Tiger is a great golfer.
But when Bill Clinton compared Barack Obama’s win in South Carolina to the earlier victories in South Carolina by Jesse Jackson, it was vile racism.

Front page
i don't get it....
Well this was a great example of how things get twisted up. Ol’ Bill’s Jesse Jackson reference had to with the fact that 3 candidates had historically won the state in primaries… Bill himself, John Edwards ( still in the race at the time ) and Jesse Jackson. He quoted a fact and used Jackson because it made no sense to name Edwards as he was still a contender or himself as this would’ve looked bad. OBAMEDIA decided to cry RACIST! RACIST! RACIST! There was only one strategy OBAMESSIAH could employ and that was the logical one…Destroy the Clinton’s, devide and conquer. It’s also OK for Chris Rock to make racist statements about ” That White Lady ” or for OBAMESSIAH to call granny a “typical white person” because in today’s climate of mass insanity rampant hypocrisy is too subtle a concept and also a word that has too many syllables to be contemplated by many of the minions. This is a prelude to facism…..A classic set up.
Working
Could not agree with you more. January 28, this is when that twisted tale started. Josh, Ezra, Arianna et. al, this is where they started the “Clintons” are racist card. I agree about the prelude to fascism.
I know "What" happened.
But as I recall, the usual suspects at MSNBC led the “tut-tutting” and “tsk-tsking” about the Clintons playing the “race card.”
But now those same bloviating gasbags say it’s different.
Bellavia compares Obama to Woods, when all they have in common is some racial heritage, but that’s not racist. Obama and Jackson have a few things in common besides the color of their skins, but comparing them was racist.
I guess IOKIYAR

Double Standard
it’s the ’Clinton Rules’
and the again:
1) just stupidity of the media
2) the thinly veiled agenda of Corp. media
3) Tiger Woods and Obama are really cousins
4) the not-OFB
are living in an alternate universe
5) numbers 3 and 4
6) all of the above
—-I’m partial to numbers 1 and 2
yup-everything out of Clinton mouths is automatically bad,
and assumed to have dark/calculated/racist/Rovian motives. Them or their supporters—it doesn’t matter. Everyone else on Earth (including all Obama supporters—and even actual racists like Pat Buchanan and Lou Dobbs, etc) can say the same thing without a problem.
Tiger vs. Jesse
The answer is that the name of Jesse Jackson was smeared so many times that upper-middle-class highbrow types developed an immediate and intense negative association — then projected it onto Clinton. Praising Jesse Jackson, you see, can never be done in earnest. Because Smart White People stopped taking him seriously, Bill Clinton can’t be taking him seriously, only using his name to summon the negative association (kind of like saying “Bloody Mary” in the mirror).
By contrast, the Smart White People have no problem with Tiger Woods, so no one must have a problem with Tiger Woods, and ipso facto no one would say his name in order to be skeery. Which is the only kind of racism.
Also acceptable: comparing Obama to Michael Jordan or Halle Berry.
Or it could just be that a supporter of Hillary Clinton did it, and everything _those people_ do is inherently suspect.
Also, golf...
… is an upper-class white man’s game (I would argue), so Tiger takes on that aura…..

MCM and Obama campaign played race card prior to 1/28--
The race card(s) began to be played prior to the NH primary — when Hillary’s mention of LBJ having something to do with actual passage of the civil rights legislation was taken to mean she was disrespecting the work of MLK in the civil rights movement. Bill Moyers, who was there at the time, couldn’t believe this was even an issue, because what she said was simply historical fact. But nothing is beyond our MCMers when they wish to spin and slime.
Billy Shaheen’s musing that the ReThugs would use Obama’s admitted very youthful cocaine use against him was also decried far and wide as racist. (Of course, the ReThugs, and the MCM more so, did use Bill Clinton’s very youthful experimentation with grass in their attacks on him — even now, jokes are made about his saying he did not inhale. But no one could ever imagine they would find a way to use such minor drug experimentation against The One, so it, too, was racist. And Shaheen was forced to resign. In the 70’s this was called mau-mauing, iirc. Get your possible critics on their heels before they know what’s going on.)
Then, Hillary won the NH primary and the MCMers that very night, especially the NBC Boyz Locker Room Gang, joined in particular by Andrea Mitchell on the broadcast news, iirc, began pushing the “NH voters are racist” theme by pushing The Bradley Effect. Could not be that one poll had it nailed, and the rest were dead wrong: No, it had to be racist white voters.
So, the race cards were on the table, and then the Obama campaign merely shuffled the deck for the next game in SC. Initially, I had blamed the MCM primarily for this—but the Sean Wilentz articles pointed out how the Obama campaign was, well, campaigning for the MCM to take these charges and run with them.
Right now, the MCM is Obama’s friend. How long that will last should Obama be the Dem nominee depends on whether they want McSame in the WH or decide, for their own purposes, to make a sharper change.
THe MCM, especially the Corporate controlling part, wants to decide our elections and our country’s future. Be afraid, be very afraid.
Damn--I forgot that the term "fairy tale" was also racist.
Making Bill Clinton also racist, bcz he mentioned how Obama did make a speech against the war, but then did very little against the war.
(Where was Obama during the antiwar demonstrations, after that one speech?)
Saw a comment somewhere chiding Lambert for his use of "bitch"
to mock the MCMers and others using sexist language against Hillary as being counterproductive (comment by snuzy mandrake??), making the real sexist remarks less noticeable. I think that was the point.
I’m not sure about that, but, surely, claiming that calling a candidate’s claim of being a champion of the antiwar movement a “fairy tale” is not racist—and calling it such does indeed make claims of actual racism much less powerful and impactful.
I think this is a very dangerous tactic by the Obama campaign and the MCM, dangerous for the nation.
