I guess I've got to go shopping for clothes...

lambert's picture

So OccupyCongress really is doing its bit for the economy! Riverdaughter has a terrific post on logistics here, and for clothing mentions:

  1. Warm down parka or a fleece pullover with weatherproof shell.
  2. Thermal underwear.
  3. Lightweight wool hiking socks with liners.
  4. Sweater, fleece, or flannel layered over a T-Shirt.
  5. Hat, scarf, gloves and mittens.
  6. Comfortable shoes.
  7. Last but not least, bring a water bottle.

So, I've got to got get a parka, thermal underwear, gloves and mittens, and a hat. Which could seem strange, since I live in Maine, but I live in a small town and walk almost everywhere I need to go. So I'm outside -- or rather, between heated spaces -- for about ten minutes at a time. But all the events for the 17th are -- of course -- outside. And I hate being cold. So....

NOTE RiverDaughter also has a great suggestion to bring more mittens to hand out to others.

Ski goggles for the pepper spray

Like you, I spend far less time out in the cold in Montana than I did in Manhattan. But I do like a neck piece that can go up around my mouth and even over my head or back down as a neck warmer. Bring extra socks if it's damp.

Good luck. I'll try for the March deal.

everyone who is coming to DC

send email to d2route [at] yahoo [dot] com, lets figure out a place to get together. I suggest the Luce Center, which is 7 blocks from McPherson Square (Occupy DC). What day, time? Otherwise, I suggest a local coffee shop, if we meet after 7 PM, when the Luce Center closes.

I just did this

I think we should get together and I will enjoy seeing you all!

I do have something that could take care of both. If there are any takers, I would be glad to help out.

I suggest that our group not lose any fingers

Need them for typing. So go indoors. Let the young pups of the group do extreme protesting.

Maybe help the young pups

to not lose their toes and fingers, and help prevent long term scarring?

I am not so young myself anymore, and do not advocate violence. But non violent protest can still lead to hours in the cold, and beatings on the flesh. So helping those on the front lines avoid the damage, and live to protest another day is a good thing!

not going to happen

The protestors at McPherson Square are not going anywhere and the Park Police have no interest in an Oakland style confrontation. Moreoever, the occupations at McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza do NOT get along.

I look forward very much to the Spring.

If the heart of the opposition (which is both Occupy and more than Occupy) beats so strongly in these still cold Winter months, imagine what the warmer weather will bring.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
