"I Must Have a Limo"
Primary tabs
Wow. Jeffrey Toobin is coming to my school to speak this week. I've been looking forward to this more than I looked forward to Andrew Sullivan, who was also brought as part of this lecture series. I've read all of Toobin's books and I'm very impressed with him.
Anyway, you can imagine how disappointed I was to hear that Toobin refused to let one of my colleagues, a fellow who has both a law degree and is finishing a PhD in Political Science, pick him up at the airport. Apparently Toobin is WAY too good to ride in somebody's car. He sternly insisted upon having a limo pick him up and drop him off.
Now, this distinguished lecturer series of ours has brought all sorts of high-powered people to our campus over the last 20 years, including U.S. Senators and other various high muckety-mucks. One of the perks of being involved with this series is being able to go pick the person up and talk with them. For the more than 20 years that this series has existed, apparently, no one has insisted on a limo instead of a ride in someone's car.
Until now.
Impressive. Very impressive.
My my. You're a wee bit of prima donna, aren't you, Mr. Toobin?

Are you serious? I've played more than 300 colleges and never had the pull to ask for a limo, and I've been given rides by idiots, nice folks, and yes, even drunk and drugged students. If he won't play student driver roulette then good for him.
Wow.
What a strange response. I don't quite know what to say to that.
