"The Internet is where Religion Comes to Die."

Personally, this is why I'm often called an "evangelist" for atheism. Yessss. I want young people and everyone to read about religion... on the intertoobs. The more they see the, um, creative variation of the human and historical expression of religious ideas, art, and theology, the more I win allies for my holy crusades. The Sumerians understood and didn't flinch from the reality: everyone wants a "personal god." We'll call it different things, but the monotheists, my greatest enemies- be aware. Your pitiful outside the wall mythology can't compete with ours, it never has and never will. As we liked to say in law tablet class: you wouldn't have to make all these laws, if you could control people well enough to prevent them from doing the stuff you're trying to ban. Good Luck with that, yo.

Special quatloo points to anyone who gets the ref in the title.

But I haz teh google skillz, and it tells me that it's an in-joke at the Uof Chicago.

I don't know if the internet will kill off religion, but I do think that it will change the way people view their own beliefs. But of course, it'll take time.

When God was asked to name himself, he replied My name is I AM

Not "I am this or that", not "I am good or bad" - he said My name is I AM

am = is = exist

god's scientific name is Existence Existing Eternally

relax - you're soaking in it.

welcome to the eternal happydance of the dancehappy atoms.

nothing can be outside of existence existing eternally. if anyone is talking about something not being god, talking of something as being outside of god, then it is not god they are talking about.

nothing can be outside of god.

certainly not atheism.

i once saw a bumper sticker that read: i am an agnostic, praying for the arrogance to become an athiest.

i'm pretty sure god got a good laugh out of that one.

thought for today: You are so significant, you were given a huge universe to live in.

thought for tomorrow: pass the fish for christsake

thought i better add: i'm certainly not associated with any organized religion. never have been. most preach the word of the churchmen whose words are far from the word of god, imo. again, to me god is 'just' - ha ha - existence eternally existing (and thanks to us being here, knowing it exists!) another bumper sticker pretty much sums me up: I have no problem with god, but his fanclubs are driving me bonkers.

rambling now...

the hilarious human species is all the proof you need that God is a Rascal.

but jeez, ya gotta love him anyway because after all, shee (obviously god cannot be just male but it's easier to just write 'he' most of the time) did give you everything but just everything you have, starting with your existence and knowing you exist, eh?

god is a scientist and this universe is shot right through with higher intelligence

humans seem to be the only species impervious to it...and you're right back to God is a Rascal.

we humans were not given unlimited wits: the unknowable exists for us. and we didn't CHOOSE to have limited wits with which to try to make our way through this great game called life.

i think we should blame god for the origin of much human mistake then forgive him completely...so we can get moving on to deal with the globalocal giga-emergencies we are in. carrying god's guilt for him is keeping us inert and paralyzed. he's got shoulders strong enough to carry his own guilt, and we have work to do to reverse the collossal destruction of human happiness and safety.

ok, so that was maybe 4 cents worth.

The revelation of the divinity of Ceiling Cat was born on the internet!

And now that we have the wonders that is Ceiling Cat, the previous belief systems seem antiquated and out of touch.

The title says "religion". All I get from it is peeps who spend too much time on the net become untethered. I need coffee. . . maybe more than usual. . .

The internet gets people to crank their level of crazy to 11. It's a feedback loop. Normally they keep a lid on it with strangers and acquaintances. However, here it's easy to find places where most are on the same wavelength and where anyone can peek in and have a laugh. So naturally when we get a good look at the inner workings of the faithful, we're mostly amused or repulsed, not impressed.

I grew up as a Catholic, believing that the bible was just myth and allegory. That isn't very surprising; since the 3rd or 4th grade I read and reread as much Greek, Norse and Native American mythology as I could find. Later, thanks to my parents and the internet, I discovered that people actually took the bible literally. That destroyed what little respect I had for the institution I was raised with. I thought it was enough to just say "I'm not a catholic anymore." But then some years later I was declared a god father against my wishes. I really need to find a good way to get excommunicated.

Really, make someone a god parent w/out their permission? Did they even ask, or did you say no, and they said "hell with it, you do it anyways?"

I mean I know it's not a legally binding thing, but if you are religious enough that selecting a god parent is that important, wouldn't you want to pick someone who was enthusiastic about it?
