DOE: Sees 125,000 B/D SPR Fill Rate May-Sep

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. will add 125,000 barrels a day of crude oil to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve between May and September 2008 through direct market purchases and transfers of royalty oil, a Department of Energy spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Fifth cable cut to Mid-East, Iran has only limited access to the Internet

Pre-emptive nuclear strike a key option, Nato told

The west must be ready to resort to a pre-emptive nuclear attack to try to halt the "imminent" spread of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, according to a radical manifesto for a new Nato by five of the west's most senior military officers and strategists.

We are going to war with Iran and our leadersheep is too busy running for President to lift a finger to stop it.

The reason we invaded Iraq (when we did it at least) is based upon changing from USD/barrel to Euro. After we invaded Iraq there was general calm a along that front, until the recent plummet of USD.

It only makes sense when the USD becomes so devalued to get out now, before the US prints money this summer to hand everyone $600 or whatever. Essentially we are devaluing the dollar on purpose so the debt we owe is also half as expensive.

Regardless, Saudis, Iran and other countries are moving again to Euro/barrel so the US is sending the not-so-subtle message by severing their connections to banks which handle millions of transactions per day.

What's the theory? Any others than the Euro one?

The UAE one is mentioned alongside the story of crazy strong winds. The Egypt pair of cables that is attributed to anchors in fact had the release of surveillance video showing no ships in the area of the Mediterranean during the time of the mysterious cut.

You know if this happened off the shores of the US, it would be DEFCON 2 or something and major talk of international sabotage (maybe even the "t" word)

More here:

You know what DOES spring to mind. Remember the FBI announcing the blackmail plots to cyber attack power stations and shut them down? It seems this could be a Russian mafia / CIA black ops to get money from some countries, or else you will have no internet.

From a financial institution it would be weeks of lost business transactions, so potentially worth lots of money to someone.

There's a long post at Moon of Alabama written a few days ago that talks about this. Most of the speculation there is around the idea that this is either a continuation of the low intensity war that BushCo are conducting against Iran, a way to isolate various "terrorist" groups by cutting off their communication routes, or an accident.
It's way beyond me, a non-expert.

In the comments at the M of A link above was a definitive statement that Iran, as of today, is not disconnected from the internet written by the Renesys Group blog (?). Their recent posts also look interesting, though I haven't had time to read them.

For a little background, there's a pretty interesting Wired magazine story that explains how the whole system works here -

The idea of invading Iran to prevent them from selling oil in Euros is faulty. It doesn't matter what currency the transaction is in, you can always swap currencies. Ultimately what matters is what currency you choose to own or save in.

If you want to do them regularly, I'll make a book for them, so people can page back and forward in them.
