Is The Great Scale of Tepidity linear, or logarithmic?

I mean, if The Great Scale of Tepidity is linear, your average tepid Obama voter might be on the scale at one, and your wildly enthusiastic Obama fan would be at two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! with each step on the scale being the same size, for a total of nine steps. Now, granted, that makes the Obama Fan, at 10, 10 whole times more enthusiastic than the tepid voter. Seems like a lot.

But if The Great Scale of Tepidity is logarithmic, the steps don't add, but multiply, so the scale might look like two, four, eight, sixteen, thirty-two, sixty-four, one-twenty-eight, two-fifty-six, five-hundred-twelve. Meaning that tepidity is more like 1/512 of wild enthusiasm than 1/10.

Gee, tepidity is so damn subjective. But it's news like this (thanks to VastLeft) that makes me really want to tighten up the ol' metrics.

Readers, which is it?

Linear, or algoritmic?

Does tepid mean 1/10 the enthusiasm of an Obama fan, or 1/512?

at 0 and all I can say is 0 x anything is 0.

Nothing seems to budge me from that point.

Still I guess following my logic I guess I think it's a multiplier. And judging by the language of the tepid to the kool-aid-drunks it's 1/512.
