(For those who came in late, that's a rhetorical question.) Bush gets off some beauties at the Democratic retreat. First teh stupid:
"I took a lot of time thinking [and getting AEI's Kagan to gin up a report to take down the Iraq Studly Group] about how best to achieve an objective of a country governing and sustaining and defending itself, a country that will be an ally on this war on terror," Bush said, adding that he "came up with a plan that I generally believe has the best chance of succeeding."
Oh, yeah. Three years into the war, we get a plan! Nice work, George. I knew you could do it. I'm proud of you.
And the arrogant part. Arrogant because apparently He expects us to take Him seriously:
"These are tough times [Why? We just took power in Congress. What's "tough"?] and yet there's no doubt in my mind that you want to secure this homeland just as much as I do," Bush said [except for the "some" who are traitors, of course. Thanks for nothing]. "You remember the lessons of September the 11th just like I do. And you understand a fundamental obligation of government is to do everything in our power to protect people here. And I'm looking forward to working with you on that..."
[Cough. Gag. 'Scuse me a moment. Where's that damn bucket?]
I remember the lesson of 9/11 very well: Never let an elected President become a tyrant.
Throw him an anvil!

I thought the lesson of 9/11 was...
... when you get a briefing titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US," that maybe you should do something about it, like ask your anti-terrorism task force to meet more than, say, zero times.

Tough Times in Shrubsville for sure...
...but the rest of us might stand a chance if the Democrats will just (Puleeeeeze!!)find some spine (even if it's Cartilaginous spine-- any spine will do.)
