Brazil rocked by abortion for 9-year-old rape victim - Americas, World - The Independent via kwout
Let me see if I get this straight: the Church has excom
I have got to say that saving the life of a 9 year old rape victim as opposed to a forced pregnancy was really out of the realm of of common sense, but , this is the Catholic church ....Right?

Good topic, but...
This post could use a little QA.
First of all, please use HTML "anchors" (i.e., linked text) on posts. If you don't know HTML, you can just select some text you've typed, click the first icon (with the world in chains) above the edit box, and paste in the URL. Raw links are OK in a comment, but a post should be a little more refined.
Also, this sentence just seems to trail off: "Let me see if I get this straight: the Church has excom"
The wording of the final paragraph is a bit hard to follow, and the comma after "but" is misplaced.
And from Islamic fundamentalism, 75-year old widow sentenced,
according to this article, to 40 lashes, jail, and deportation from Saudi Arabia. She had her nephew deliver 5 loaves of bread to her house; he came with his business partner; the religious police were waiting and arrested all three. The young men, both 24, were sentenced to lashes and jail.
The woman, a Syrian married to a Saudi man who died, said she had nursed her nephew when he was a baby, which establishes a degree of close relationship which would make it acceptable for her to be with him without a close male relative chaperone. The religious police say she doesn't have the evidence to support the claim.
Not a fun place for women. Surely the government will intervene...right?
