Barak authorizes construction of 300 new homes in West Bank. Or maybe The Greatest Speech EVAH In Cairo ("It is time for these settlements to stop") was the sort of big-on-promises/short-on-delivery when-I-say-visionary-minimalist-the-accent-is-on-minimalist bushwa that we've become more used to already over here, that Israel wasn't meant to take seriously, nudge nudge wink wink, and there is no sharp stick at all.
Really, who knows? 11 dimensions are w-a-a-a-a-a-y too many for me. Wouldn't it all have been simpler if Israel just hadn't expanded the "settlements" -- gawd, I hate that masterwork of framing -- any more?

"Facts on the ground"--The Israeli government has got away w/
doing this for decades. Why should they think things will be different now?
Obama's actions speak louder than words, and he has done nothing to help the encircled and starving Gazans.
Wonder what he'll do...if anything other than some sort of statement of regret about the new settlement.
Middle ground
Stopping growth of the settlements is highly important. Israel, however, is not a dictatorship and ignoring your coalition partners and the political inertia is not possible. There must be a realistic goal of limiting the growth to insignificance that Obama and Israel can agree on. In the absence of Abbas' consent on geographical solution, stopping growth to zero is a fight not worth fighting.
Note: Abbas has rejected an extremely generous land for peace offer by Olmert; a better offer is not in the cards now.
