No sourcing for this, and when I Google, what do I find?
Eesh. Yeah, I know our famously free press is teh suck, but Lyndon LaRouche and the Freepers? That chamber is just a little too echo-y for me. Plus smelling like shit. A link to, say, a story off the wires, or even an actual interview, would be nice. Got one?
I'm all for a critique, especially since critique is pretty thin on the ground these days, but.... Ick.

No, that's not what they should have done
The story is running around other places like it's real. They either should have contextualized it explicitly, debunked it, not used it, or written -- now, here's a concept -- something original. This post does not resemble one of MJS brilliant and clearly fictional scenarios in the least.
And, as I point out, it uses right wing tropes from real bottom-feeders. Badly. Exactly the image I would have thought PUMA would seek to avoid.
Or perhaps you think this is helping them?

hey, its funny...
And, as I point out, it uses right wing tropes from real bottom-feeders.
the only problem here is that PumaPAC doesn't seem to realize that its a joke. It doesn't matter if its a joke that started among right-loons, its still da funny!
Actually I recognize this joke
I've heard it before, with a made-up person as the lead.
Obviously, I didn't....
So, I googled, and there we are.

Just another sad example, lambert, of the
power of discontent to morph into hatred, and hatred to diminish us all to the level of morans.
This is the same kind of claptrap currently being foisted on Democrats to try to tar John Edwards with some kind of immorality.
Human beings come in all colors, sizes, shapes, beliefs and variants of sexual identity. The one common element we share is our imperfection.
Edwards, who didn't win the Democratic Presidential nomination, is the latest in a string of potential Dem leaders going back at least as far as the famous gaffe in Jimmy Carter's interview in the White House about lust in the heart to be smeared with this innuendo and smarm.
It's a damn diversion, again, aimed at taking our eyes off the prize and our attention away from what matters. Edwards MUST be doing something right, or this story wouldn't be a whisper in the background.
Who's afraid of his initiatives against poverty, and why?
That's the god-damned story, you puling bunch of milk-fed whimpering awestruck wannabe reporters. PB 2.0 my sweet aunt Fanny -- find out what it is Edwards is doing with the poverty initiatives and associated policies, and who it is he's pissing off by doing it, and you'll have something worth making headlines out of. Furthermore, you'll be showing the world, not snarking about, exactly what level of useless the so-called liberal media really has descended to.
Or sit back and snark. Be just as biased as Limbaugh's claims that the media is trying to put something heinous over on the ordinary citizen; be just as prejudiced as O'Reilly's statements about how hateful a place Netroots Nation in Austin was.
It's your choice. The blogosphere is as strong a tool, as sharp a weapon, as a newspaper or a radio station.
What you use it for is as good or as evil as you want it to be. It's as weak, or as strong, as you want to make it.
You wanna be the next Conan O'Bryyyen, keep on with the current direction. You wanna be the next Edward R. Murrow, elevate your damn game.

An email joke for many years
Used about Kerry, Bush, etc. It was presented as a true story about Hillary Clinton (though subsequently debunked in the comments) at a site that claims to be selected for archive by the Library of Congress:
http://www.nathanielturner.com/hillarycl...
The PUMA site features it without context, unfortunately; however, all the commenters except for perhaps one seemed to recognize it as a joke. But the joke, with the cartoon, seem childish.
Good to call bullshit on this
Lies are never the right path, and this story is a lie that insults not just Obama but Native Americans as well. Rude, crude and racist; what's not to like?
Here's the real story on Obama and the NAs, if anyone actually cares about reality. The totem name he was given by the Crow Nation is Black Eagle, and his tribal name translates as "He who helps all the people in the land." Their hope is that a black person will be able to identify with NA persecution and help them with their struggle to have their treaty rights enforced and the money stolen from the BIA trust fund restored, among other things. Who can know what anyone will actually do in the future, but there is huge enthusiasm for him today in the NA community.
And just to set the record straight, a "walking eagle" isn't full of shit but full of fish, too heavy to take off from the ground. It is a derogatory, but used to describe someone who has become the victim of their own gluttony.
So the passing it around misrepresents NA cultural expressions, is derogatory to NAs in general by misrepresenting their interaction with Obama, snidely demeans their status as free nations and human beings by making a mockery of their ability to form independent opinion and is a flat-out lie.
Real funny, them injuns. Ha-ha.
Let's extend our outrage on HRC's behalf, shall we?
The word-for-word story, except about Hillary Clinton instead, has been widespread on the Internet for a couple years without a word of outrage, and was very popular at my.barackobama.com and HuffPo during the primary.
Yup
One of several examples, some with corrections in comments, some without...
http://my.barackobama.com/page/community...
Lies are never the right path
Emphasis on the word never.
Consider my outrage formally extended to include any such attack on Hillary Clinton. Guess I missed it the last time around, never read my.bo.com and rarely look at HuffPo. Poor taste and bad judgment are apparently present in many different affinity groups.
Since we - most of us - agree now that it is an outrageous, scurrilous, unacceptable attack regardless of which person is the object, I look forward to seeing the site Lambert links to above being barraged by condemnation from PUMA affiliates as well as other upright-thinking and decent individuals.
Thanks for the heads-up
Who knew that lies were wrong?
Do you really want me to make a list?
of those who don't know it? Doesn't include you, of course, but there are others - and they know who they are.
Make a list if you feel like it
Backed up by evidence, I'd recommend.
Save the outrage
for something important, like vote suppression

target.

Why does that that need to be pointed out to Senior Fellows?
Isn't this very post by a Senior Fellow calling out propagation of a lie by people who are more or less likeminded?
I am quite confused by all this innuendo about Correntians who need to be schooled about the toxicity of lies.
Confused.
I'm confused. What was I supposed to see at those two links posted at the beginning of the thread? Did the PUMApac site change the page, because I don't think they tried to pass it off as an honest news story (i.e "SOOO, if bathroom humor is not your cup of tea (block that metaphor!) you should move on to this site for the remainder of the evening.").
What did I miss?
BTW, anyone else getting tired of a few who sound like reactionary, campaign communications directors who pick every battle since they don't know when and where to pick battles?

True, myiq, about joke sourcing
I do credit sometimes when the author wrote the material (v. adapting) and I know who they are, but generally no.
I do understand retelling this joke which was used against Hillary this year, AND Kerry in '04 (then retold against Bush too) to reframe things. That's beside its original existence with an unknown lead (a person who thinks he is being honored.) If you think this kind of stuff has no effect, see all the OFB
commenting on other sites saying it's REALLY a joke about Hillary (I'm not going to link.) I'm not sure it hurts PUMA exactly to show a more human side as we've been so thoroughly exposed to the more human side of the OFB, but generally I would hope everyone would improve their level. As far as helping people or not, obviously some people think retelling jokes like this helps their candidates, because cutting and pasting is happening.
However, I don't want to get into "if Hillary isn't PERFECT, she doesn't DESERVE anything" territory; we have to be careful, IMO, to not judge certain groups more harshly than others, except on their actual actions. This joke, written against Hillary, is on the BO website, along with others, Bo is right.
I think PUMA needs jokes too but it would be good if they separated them out more. But they should know that people are reading them because reaction to this joke is showing the trail. Once you know that, you might want to put up your best material. (Although jokes do have this special, "going viral" power...okay, I vote for PUMA writing more and better jokes!)
Myiq, go to bed!
A joke that you have to explain...
... is not a good joke. Eh?
1. I read the story as a real joke played on Obama because it's very long, reads like a real story, and I remembered Obama had recently visited an Indian reservation; also because it's what the tribes in my own state would really like to do to our own governor. Which is why I went looking for sourcing.
2. So I Googled it, and came up with other sources like LaRouche and the Freepers, for which I supplied a link.
3. That made it look to me like those urban legends or emails that go viral and get attached to political figures.
4. So I asked for the sourcing, in case it wasn't.
OK, it's a joke -- and I'm the only stupid person on earth not to get it. Not. Meaning it really will propagate virally.
As I said: I'd like the PUMAs to be smart. I think we need to them to smart. I'm all for them being smart. Using the LaRouche joke book for humorous postings is not smart.
Got it?

For the record
I'ld like to build on BIO's useful info upthread on Obama's Native American relations (unfortunately prefaced with unwarranted snipe on his fellows here "Here’s the real story on Obama and the NAs, if anyone actually cares about reality.")
I would like to see HRC as VP or in another powerful position. Despite efforts by Dems teaming up with the GOP to discredit her, she in fact has very strong Native American support WITH a solid track record on their behalf; as in so many areas, Obama would benefit with her on his ticket.
She had "endorsements from two of the largest Indian voting blocs in the nation - the Navajo...and the Oklahoma Cherokee" and won Oklahoma and Arizona.

So, you think the post is a smart post, then
[I mean the "joke" post that I linked to, not my post.]
Only conclusion I can draw.
I mean, I always turn to LaRouche for my jokes. Who wouldn't?
Which is really too bad. We need PUMA to be smart. This isn't smart.
And at this point, I hate to say it, but I'm more concerned with lame, off-point responses than the original lame joke. So should you be, and so should PUMA.

Let's break this down
Let's break the spectrum of Democrats into groups:
A--Obama cultists who decry all blasphemy.
B--Diehard Obama fans willing to plead ineffectively with BHO on his website about one or two issues.
C--Party-driven Dems who preferred other candidates but are now mild Obama supporters.
D--Issue-driven Dems who find their party, led by Obama, taking a right turn without them; some will vote for him disgustedly while objecting loudly, others are observing and objecting loudly while agonizing over the possibility of withholding their vote.
E--A vague mix of Dems, Dems-turned-GOP, and independents opposing Obama from both right and left, some eagerly supporting McCain, who have agreed to join forces to oppose Obama using a confusing mix of left and right-wing arguments which lends itself to caricature.
All groups except D are well-recognized by the media. I have not seen one word about group D (my group).
Members of the party's most powerful groups, Groups A and B, label anyone not in their group E, which is considered so insulting that it has the effect of stifling dissent.
Group E's prominence has effectively obscured the existence of Group D and its issues. As a member of Group D, I consider this a serious problem. I think Group D's best strategy would be to sharpen its own focus as distinct from Group E. Efforts by Group D to modify Group E would probably not be effective, and would be better spent "converting" individuals.
This is a good breakdown
of democrats and a great analysis.

Are we sure that the source of the joke is LaRouche, or was that just one of the search results? If it's the latter, how are you going to connect the two anymore than you'd connect them to any of those other search results? I went to the LaRouche site, just now, and the joke there seems, itself, to be linked from another website:
"For your amusement and edification we provide you a posting by Asian4Hillary from the PUMA PAC blog’s “Denver Open Thread”
