Jeralyn channels MoDo

Shorter: "2010 was b-o-o-r-r-r-r-i-n-g!" Lordy.

I'm not bored. Are you?

Jeralyn is an idiot, one of these Democrats who thinks the occasional liberal throwaway line qualifies them as progressive and left. It took her until paragraph 10 to begin talking about Obama. She managed to miss every major legal story of the last year, except for one of those throwaway lines about Guantanamo. But foot dragging on DADT, all the noxious briefs this Administration has filed, its invoking of state secrets, its contesting even the most well founded habeas petitions, its lack of interest in foreclosuregate, its continued failure to investigate the massive frauds on Wall Street that led to the housing collapse and meltdown or the criminality of the Bush years, the torture of Bradley Manning, the unconstitutionality of the individual mandate in healthcare, the Citizens United decision, Administration moves to institutionalize indefinite detention, its gutting net neutrality, its treatment of whistleblowers? I guess if like Jeralyn you passed the last year with your eyes shut, your fingers in your ears, going la, la, la, I can't hear you, 2010 would be a very boring year for you too.

I read the thing at least three times, trying to decide if it was serious or snark, and came to the conclusion, based on her response to both me and lambert, that she was serious.

There are times when I've wondered if Jeralyn's semi-obsession with needing to be entertained is a function of her spending her days at the jail with her clients - which has to be a less-than-uplifting environment - and seeing a steady stream of people caught up in the legal system; I mean, who wouldn't want to find an escape in one's non-working hours?

But (among a lot of other things I still don't quite get), Barack Obama's too "normal?" Is there something wrong with me that I find Obama's normal-ness to be, in many ways, frightening, since the obvious conclusion about the things he does and still wants to do is that it must be okay because, hey, look how normal he is?

I am not reassured by the layer of normal he's painting over a lot of really bad stuff. And I don't think things would be better if he were more "fun."

I don't know - I guess I'm having an I-don't-get-it kind of day.

Happy New Year, all...

Obama's normalcy reminds me of Hannah Arendt's banality of evil. 15 million unemployed, 25 million un- and under employed, 32 million total disemployed, the wars, the rampant financial frauds, and Obama is taking a "well earned" vacation in Hawaii and congratulating himself over his recent legislative "victories".

As long as it was, there wasn't a lot to get - other than there are other things outside of crime and politics. As for me, I am eagerly looking forward to another exchange between you and ABG! Poor fellow...

That she went after the kids. Michelle Obama not being the dazzling and dynamic First Lady? OK, I can see how that would bother some people, and I won't even go into our sexist society's sexist expectations of women.

But the kids "Might as well be in emsconced in a boarding school in Switzerland"? And that's a bad thing because...? Those two girls have been kept out of the media's eye, and left alone to live a normal a life as possible, and we are going to rip into 0b#m$ for it? Geez, that's the ONE thing he's done well! If only he were so assiduously concerned for ALL OUR children as well.

She left out Deepwater Horizon and the Gulf of Mexico.
