Jim McDermott on Single payer: "It's in our face. We can't avoid it"

This past Sunday, Representative Jim McDermott (D-WA) looked into our future and saw a single-payer health care system in it!

It's in our face," McDermott told a university healthcare group in a speech, according to the Monterey County Herald. "We can't avoid it. That's why something is going to happen."

[...]

"There will be a campaign to support this from the grass roots. You need to place pressure on your congressman," he said. "They will react to people asking them, why don't you do something? There's no question people can make a real impact."

All of us faxing and calling Pelosi and others for the past few days are living proof of this.

Jim McDermott (whose name has appeared on Corrente before this) is a true single-payer hero.

We haven't been in their face nearly enough!

Hopefully, that will come.

E-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Letters, Calls

I've done them all in the past two days.

Single payer or else. We can't afford to fail.

Is there a single payer page on facebook, then?

And if so, where?

Yes, there are more than a few pages

I've joined Single Payer Action (there's a whole host of Facebook pages dedicated to Single Payer, some state specific), the Congressional Progressive Caucus on Facebook and other relevant Congress pages (e.g., Barbara Lee). More importantly, I've been spreading the gospel to my friends via Facebook and Twitter, asking them to immediately contact their Congress members (A couple dozen have already done so!).

Well, far be it from me...

... to blogwhore, but if you scatter a bunch of links to Corrente, it wouldn't go amiss....

Already did.

I linked to DCBlogger's posts. And the Physicians for a National Health Plan, which has a great section on pushing Obama to enact change, and a Bloomberg op-ed.

Oh, and did anyone read this story from Politico, "Groups strategize for single-payer plan?"

cool!

good work!

i've avoided facebook so far, because of the privacy issues. have they fixed those yet?

You have good privacy options on Facebook

this is a post to gladden my heart

The more I hear defeatist talk about how single payer is off the table, the more I am convinced that we are winning.

mcdermott: I am here to say that single payer is on the table

that was back in july 2008.

plus he's a cosponsor of hr 676 [we're up to 75 cosponsors now].

maybe we should call or fax some thank yous to congressman mcdermott.

preach it sister

Reward good behavior, thank McDermott.

McDermott

I nearly fell over in my chair when I saw this post because I continually kept reading Jim "DeMint" for Jim "McDermott". Jim DeMint is an ultra-conservative Republican senator from the state of South Carolina. Yeah, I've been putting of dyslexia testing, forever. Maybe, I should go get tested, now, and get it over with. lol

But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
