If "better" is the word that I want. It's a two-fer:
Someone like former Sen. Jack Danforth, R-Mo., for example, "might be too liberal for the base," said Hunter College political scientist Kenneth Sherrill, referring to Republican conservatives who make up President Bush's core supporters.
A more intriguing pick, Sherrill said, would be Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Likud), the hawkish Connecticut Democrat [sic] whose nomination would allow his state's Republican governor to appoint his replacement wresting control of the Senate from Democrats to a tie between the two parties.
What's not to like?
As I recall, the Senate rules for this session are such that a tie still leaves Democrats in control. But still ....

Here's What's Scary About That
It's exactly the kind of poke in the eye Bush would love to deliver to Democrats. And they'd be in a tough position; can't you just hear the wingers and the SCLM
screaming that "look at how vicious those crazy netroots lefties, the Democratic base; Democrats ran Joe as their Vice-Presidential candidate less than ten years ago; now they don't think he has enough integrity to be AG.
There's a simple answer to that; Joe Lieberman left us, it's not the other way around.
I'm betting Lieberman wouldn't take it; why give up the five more years he has as Senator for eighteen months with a Republican administration that's disliked by a majority of his constituents.
Luckily, there's a marvelously gracious way for Lieberman to turn Bush down with a statement something like, "I feel I can be of more help to the Bush administration and its policy goals by remaining a Senator.
Not a chance..
I agree with leah, no way in hell that Lieberman gives up his Senate seat and officially joins BushCo. And I think that the GOPers also want him to stay right where he is, festering in the Dems' collective hide.
More realistic options that offer the same benefits to the GOP: Orrin Hatch or Rick Santorum. I personally think it's more likely Bush will just let the temp guy stay on the job for the rest of his term, maybe along the way tossing up some really odious candidate that the Dems will have to reject.
Money?
Surely Holy Joe could make bigger bucks after being AG?
