Way to negotiate the deal, there, John.* HuffPo:
In a closed-door meeting of Senate Finance Committee Democratic members and their staff Wednesday evening, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) suggested that if the committee bill didn't have enough votes for a public option it include a ten-year delay [FAIL!] between passage of health care reform and the implementation of a public option that Americans could buy into, according to two Democratic aides.
So, we'll put off real reform 10 years just to pass a meaningful bill? I am s-o-o-o-o glad we have more Democrats!!!!!!!
Under the plan floated by Kerry, a public health care option would only be triggered by private insurance companies failing to meet certain criteria after ten years. Known as the "trigger" in legislative lingo, the idea is vociferously opposed by health care advocates who consider it the death of reform. ...
One source familiar with Kerry's unexpected suggestion said that the idea seemed to have little impact [Like I said: Clueless fuckup] on the meeting and that the senators quickly moved on.
Kerry has expressed his strong personal support for a public option without a trigger that would be available immediately.
Way to show that support, John!

I lost respect for him
when, like andrew sullivan, kerry said obama would be a great president because he was black.

Yeah, and he haw-hawed that
if a Republican governor had to go missing, too bad it couldn't have been Sarah Palin...
What a tool.
Sometimes I still cannot believe the level of stupidity and stubbornness and selfishness and idiocy that is being brought to bear on the issue of health care reform. People this stupid should probably not be allowed to get out of bed in the morning without an attendant, much less be trusted to craft reform legislation that actually works for the people.
I'd love to rubberstamp all their foreheads with F A I L in neon orange.
How he has changed from his days of youth....
Very cautious now. Very careful of the uberwealthy, the powerful. Dasn't try to push a sitting president toward the left, the better solutions. Damn, I actually did think he'd make a better president than candidate....
Do good Dems just get wrecked on the shoals of DC? Has the FKD Party infected even center left, formerly liberal Dems? Or did I just not realize he was a Finance Wing Dem all along?
I'm becoming totally disgusted with what's happening about healthcare.
Is that the objective? Piss off and depress the lefties so we throw up our hands and go into either a funk or screaming insanity?
Does anyone know Ted Kennedy's health status? Is he so ill he
can't even use the phone to try to jawbone his Dem cohorts, cajole his Repub friends, to support a good healthcare reform plan? He must be very, very ill.
His silence is frightening in that it problably means he won't recover....?
wow
I am so glad Kerry was not elected President. Detested Bush but he wasn't supposed to be on my side.
Kerry WAS elected.
.
JFK has been shot, we miss him a lot
He always knew what to do
