There is literally nothing that the Republicans won’t sell, corrupt or destroy, so long as it means some of them will make a little extra money from it. I feel as if I’ve posted on something like this at least once a week for the last six years. If there is any argument which will make me enthusiastically support Hillary, it is that at least she will have some semblence of deceny in appointments, and won’t pick guys like these:

His nomination Thursday of an executive from the National Association of Manufacturers to chair the Consumer Product Safety Commission points this out.
Michael Baroody is executive vice president of the manufacturers association and this organization seeks to relax some regulations imposed by the commission. Consumer advocates fear he will follow through.

His past record of service in government shows he sought to thwart regulations designed to protect workers. And he also has been vocal against some standards for cleaning the environment.

Baroody’s nomination follows a familiar Bush pattern of appointing people from certain groups regulated by an agency to high positions in that agency, such as appointing people affiliated with the logging industry to call the shots for timber cutting in federal forests or naming individuals to head agencies who are opposed to their mission in general.

The regulatory agencies don’t get disbanded, but their effectiveness is greatly diminished or rendered null. Conflicts of interest are bound to surface.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Baroody as assistant secretary of labor in the Ronald Reagan presidency, defended the administration’s worker-protection record while the agency dragged its feet in enacting worker-safety rules.

They have no shame, they don’t care about conflict of interest, or competence, and they are willing to risk the health and safety of your family just to make a little more, which they don’t reinvest into our communities or interests, I’ll add.

As Lambert is fond of saying, it would be really nice to have a death penalty for corporations. People are going to die and be maimed for life thanks to this, your media won’t report on it and Republicans won’t apologize. But look! Paris Hilton has new shoes, so nevermind…
