Apparently, Obama’s made-for-TV self-coronation spectacular is on. He’ll be flying back to Iowa, first victory, means a lot, hunky bused-in Abercrombie & Fitch guys, yadda yadda yadda, to surround himself with appropriate trappings of splendor and triumphalism for a metric, “majority of the pledged delegates [as of May 20],” that is totally without meaning according to The Rulez. But Obama apparently won’t actually use the word “victory”, in supposed deference to the tender sensibilities (“Sweetie”) of Clinton supporters. (“Sure looks like a victory celebration to me, Keith.” “Yes, it does, and so it should. Here comes the balloon drop! WWTSBQ
?”) But hey. It’s all about looking good! And stealing your opponent’s airtime. And suppressing the popular vote in the remaining primaries, of course.
Expectation: Obama will manage to piss off some constituency—I’d guess people who don’t like Michelle’s tiara, or maybe even the voters in the next primaries, at least, who are being told their votes are meaningless. It never fails. Say, I wonder if he’ll have a free moment to leave a message on Hillary’s cellphone this time?
Bonus paranoia: Will Obama wheel out another banked endorsement at the coronation?
Expectations: As for the KY and OR votes, nobody knows anything.
The KY wild cards are the Edwards endorsement, which was supposed to appeal to the racists Obama can’t appeal to, and whether Obama’s grotesque yet theologically off-point* pandering to the Christianists works out. As usual, Obama’s got more money than God. And the KY media market overlaps IL. (Maybe that doesn’t matter, because Hillary took southern IL.) So, Hillary needs to win by 20 to win.
The OR wild card is the mail-in primary, which means that a lot of Oregonians have already voted by primary day, reducing Hillary’s ability to pick up last minute voters. I remember that OR’s demo is a lot like WI’s, so Obama is slated to win big. Obama’s margin in WI was 17, so I’ll spot him two points, and say Obama needs 15 to win.
Have at it!
NOTE * Obama’s hideous soft-focus brochure was all about salvation through works. But the Christianists are about salvation through faith. Then again, both are creating the leader and fainting at rallies. So we’ll see how much theological matters, I suppose.
UPDATE Nags:
Senator Barack Obama would like to begin shutting down the nominating contest with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Tuesday night as two more states — Kentucky and Oregon — hold their primaries. But he wants to do it subtly.
I’m sure he would. And he’s being about as subtle as fingers on a blackboard. Sweetie.
One thing to keep in mind: Mr. Obama’s victory in pledged delegates might be a marker in the campaign but he, like Mrs. Clinton, is still short of the 2,025 delegates needed to win his party’s nomination. And he, like Mrs. Clinton, will not be able to cross that threshold without the help of the so-called superdelegates — elected officials and party leaders not chosen in caucuses and primaries — who are expected to weigh in in the weeks ahead.
So that would make this evening’s entertainment content-free except as spectacle, would it not?
If there is a consensus on both sides, it is that this contest is all but over. The only question now is how it ends. Mr. Obama’s aides said that he will do everything he can to set the stage for reuniting a divided party — not appearing to push her out; treating Mrs. Clinton with respect — even as he moves with increasing force onto the general election playing field.
Well. That should make Obama’s coronation speech very interesting, shouldn’t it? Look for the “some say…” locution, just as in Philly.

Front page
Well, I voted
If my observations are anything to go by, turnout is going to be huge.
My polling place, usually dead early in the morning for primaries and generals, was hopping.
The other PP’s I drove past were packed.
And, as ARG, pointed out, the higher the turnout, the better the win for Clinton.
Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!
i bet it'll be Gore tonight--
watch and see….ugh.
All the boys are protecting their pick.
Yes, there will be yet another endorsement
From the AP yesterday:
Iowa Democratic Chairman Brennan to endorse Obama
Expectation: Obama will manage to piss off some constituency
Why yes he will: FL & MI.
So there are no red states and no blue states and states that don’t count:
“A clear majority”? I wonder how forgiving FL & MI will be in November? How do Montana, South Dakota, and Puerto Rican voters feel, now that Obama has crowned himself king?
he's coasting/running out the clock--
it’s so sad—he actually expects people to vote for him after even now insulting and/or ignoring so many millions of voters.
That was my thought
Ick.

Byrd-"a noble-hearted patriot and humble Christian."
hysterical— Byrd endorses ’humble Christian’ Obama
This is what passes for humble among politicians, i guess?
the night of the rules ctte mtg he's hosting a fundraiser--
Al Gore Hosts DNC Fundraiser For Clinton, Obama Supporters
it'll be all women behind him for the cameras
i bet—and some union-looking white guys too, i bet—and of course, tons of big flags.
Obama Event Coordinator: Get Me More White People
Sunny, Obama made it about her to begin with--
he smeared the only woman on a ticket we’ve ever had.
It is about her, just as him painting both Clintons and millions of voters as racists is about all of them.
& her statement pales in comparison
to what they said about her, and to Michelle Obama’s noncommittment to work for Hillary if she were the nominee, etc…
Aeryl, are you in KY or OR?
I love this job!
Memories
History repeats itself (emphases mine):
Those Obama-Bush comparisons are a bit too close for my comfort.
KY
Obama will probably win my city, Lou-Uh-Vul, but will get creamed elsewhere.
Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!
totally Bush2000--
and horrendous.
Morons
Don’t they know that by rolling out all these endorsements touting Obama’s Christianity and patriotism they are reinforcing the idea that many people question both of those? It’s blatantly obvious what they are trying to do and when its so transparent, people won’t buy it.
And you all want me to believe Obama has run a good campaign? Please. He’s bankrolled by Wall Street big shots (not the little guy) and has the media as a branch of his communications team. There’s no way Obama would be where he is without the media. That’s why, for the future of our democracy, Obama winning the nomination is fundamentally bad. This is a media driven candidacy. Even other media driven candidacies have had at least some layer of legitimacy (years of relevant experience).
GQ: It's the same thing really
The Wall Street big shots own the media.
BTW - Are you done with your huge project?

And it pisses off
the big time secular democrats like me who’ve had enough of the religion in politics in the past 8 years.
us non-Christians too--
seriously.
Now, when he and they bring it up, people think “Rev. Wright” and/or crypto-Muslim and stuff. It’s not a plus, and if Huckabee is McCain’s VP, there’s no way to get those voters anyway—if we ever could to begin with.
definitely crowned as new JFK/Jackie--
watch and see—Tweety’s already starting it now.
how come OR has less ppl, but more dels & SDs?
Kentucky — 4,241,474 — 51 delegates, 9 SDs
Oregon — 3,747,455 — 52 delegates, 13 SDs

Couldn't Resist
Obama apparently won’t actually use the word “victory”, in supposed deference to the tender sensibilities (“Sweetie”) of Clinton supporters.
What’s he going to use “prevailed”?
To screw Hillary over
That and I believe states that are more “Democratic” or “important” get more delegates.
Still not as screwed up as Obama beating Hillary in AK by 2,000 votes and netting 5 delegates while Hillary beats Obama by over 100,000 votes in TX and she ends up getting fewer delegates (when you include the caucus). The whole stupid thing is a sham.
Amber, more delegates because more Dems
The delegates are assigned in large part by turnout in the last three presidential elections. I have the formula somewhere and if I find it I’ll put it up again, but the deal is that states, and within them congressional districts, that voted more for Democrats get a stronger weighting in the mumber of elected and appointed delegates.
The number of PLEO (Party Leaders and Elected Officials) superdelegates is in part determined by the number of elected Democrats in the state; every D US Senator & Representative, every D Governor, is a supedelegate.
That answer your question vis a vis OR & KY or do you want the damn formula?
