KY/OR/Obama self-coronation thread #3

Hillary wins. Jeralyn:

Who won bigger in today’s primaries? 100% of the vote is in from Kentucky, 66% is in from Oregon:

* Hillary won 51 delegates so far, Obama 35.
* Hillary earned 650,000 votes, Obama has gotten 475,000.

Hillary won a lot more votes and more delegates tonight.

She’s tonight’s winner.

Sure, Obama had a great February, but what’s he done for us lately? And:

Popular vote total nationally:Counting Michigan, Florida and the caucus states, including estimates for IA, NV, MEWA:

* Hillary:17,581,874 * 47.8%
* Obama: 17,486,820 * 47.5%
* Hillary up by 95,054, +0.26%

And Fuck our famously free press sideways for trying to pick our President for us. I’m sure the WWTSBQ knobs will be turned up to 11, tomorrow, unless the new “nice offensive”/”offensively nice” tactic takes hold. God. The race is tied, the longer it goes on the weaker Obama looks for the general, and it takes more money than God to keep the news that Obama’s being repudiated by most of the base from seeping through….

I’m fading fast — and I have to prime some walls tomorrow morning. I’m doubting will see this thing close to single digits, though I’d like to be wrong, and so goodnight.

1:27AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (67).

1:08AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (65).

1:00AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (62). I think I’ll have another.

12:51AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (56).

12:24AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (55).

This has slowed to a crawl. It looks like it’s going to be a long night. Should I have the cheap red? Or the cheap red?

12:11AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (52).

12:03AM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (51).

11:47PM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (50) More from Eastern Oregon. Oopsie….

11:40PM OR 0 57 - H 43 = 14 (48) More from Eastern Oregon. Closer, closer….

11:36PM OR 0 58 - H 42 = 16 (42) One county only from Eastern Oregon.

11:30PM OR 0 59 - H 41 = 18 (39) Nothing from Eastern Oregon.

11:26PM OR 0 59 - H 41 = 18 (39) Nothing from Eastern Oregon.

11:18PM OR 0 60 - H 40 = 20 (40) Portland, Eugene, Salem, Gresham are now all in. Those are OR’s four largest cities.

11:18PM OR 0 60 - H 40 = 20 (29) Nothing from Eastern Oregon.

11:16PM OR 0 60 - H 40 = 20 (25) Sheesh, does this go fast.

11:12PM OR 0 61 - H 39 = 22 (16)

Here we go: 11:08 PM OR 0 63 - H 37 = 26 (11% reporting, Portland and Eugene. Obama projected winner immediately.)

Coronation Update

The Transcript of the Greatest Coronation Speech EVAH
Here. I’d love to share the Kool-Aid, but my diabetes is acting up real bad….

I hear Obama consistently refers to Hillary in the past tense. We’ll see. And the background music? Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Nice. Real… Nice. Of course, Stevie Wonder was blind, wasn’t he? So it would fit right in.

.

UPDATE I’ve read the speech. Did anyone listen to it, and does it sound like it reads? Like it was written by a Committee? There’s nothing there (except the same lie about his health care plan that he keeps repeating: universal “for those who want it” isn’t universal because of the free rider problem, IIRC).

Coronation Update

Kit Seeley:

The great orator orates oratorically
We’ve been looking over Mr. Obama’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, and they’re embargoed until delivery. Now that he’s speaking, we can tell you this: He uses the word “change” 20 times.

C’mon, Kit. Who’d he insult? BTD thinks its Oregon:

Ok, one thought, it is just weird that he is in Iowa, not Oregon. I do not get it. He could have done the speech right at 11 pm EST and been on all the local news shows. It is sort of a dis of Oregon isn’t it?

More Kibble

Sorry it's not much, but I had a (teeny-tiny) bit leftover after I paid the ransom to get my car back from the garage. Hope it helps the hamsters for a couple hours!

Quelle surprise...

msnbc.com wasted no time calling Oregon for Obama: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24714065/

I put some very small kibble in the dish

I'm a lurker not a poster by temperament, but still greatly appreciate this blog. I couldn't give nearly as much as I would have liked. Unfortunately, over the last three months I've taken the greatest series of "one time hits" that my income has seen combined in a short period - taxes (fuck divorce lawyers who think you don't even have enough money to screw up), health care, dental bills (health care, too!), eye care (health care again), and vet bills. Somehow, after I spent close to half of my yearly take home in three months, I'm a little vulnerable. Who needs savings? Oh, and this is not a whine, but might be a good indicator of who I've chosen to support.

So keep arguing and putting the ugly stuff out there. We will all be stronger for it. Let's all push the Overton window to the left.

Oh, and I tossed a little money at the hamsters

And damned if they didn't eat the stuff right up!

I've heard if you feed 'em Euros, they only need half as much. Apparently the American stuff contains a lot of filler these days.

Obama's Still Losing Low Income & Still Has Wright Problem

If you break it down further, it appears what he's really losing are no college voters in Oregon, but from the CNN data, he wins "no college degree" but loses "no college". He also managed to win voters making 30-50k, which normally goes to Clinton, but still lost voters under 30k. So he does continue to have a low income voter problem, he just has less of a working class problem. He also continues to lose Catholics. (CNN Exits - http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primari... ).

One of the big differences seems to be that Obama was able to win even among voters who think he shares Wright's views "somewhat", which was 23%. In the eastern states, Obama got creamed among voters who thought he shared Wright's views at all. Here he only lost them by about 10 pts. and there were fewer of them. But then Oregon appears to be a less religious state.

In OR:

Does Obama Share Views of Rev. Wright? 32% yes, Clinton won 54% of those voters. Of the 57% who said no, Clinton only got 34% of the vote.

In KY: 53% thought Obama shared Wright's views, Clinton won 86% of them. Obama won the voters who said no (55%).

In WVA: 51% thought Obama shared at least some of Wright's views, Clinton won these voters at 81%, she won other voters at 51%.

In IN: They asked was Wright important (not about views), 46% said yes, Clinton won 71% of that vote and lost not important where Obama got 67% of the vote.

Even in AA dominated NC Clinton won voters who said Wright was important. 47% said he was important and Clinton won 57% of those voters. Obama stomped her with the rest, getting 72%.

And the thing that's scary is that this is supposed to be an issue he has put behind him. I don't have a problem with Wright, my biggest problem with him is that contrary to the Media CW, I don't think Obama handled the issue very well and while the MSM won't tell anyone, it's hurting him.

To check the exits yourself go here - http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/ - and then click on the state in the mostly purple map for the polling info for that state.

bitter/cling lost him

millions of voters for good--i don't see how he gets them back ever. Who wants to vote for a guy who insults them that way?

amberglow's picture

he's spending more than he's taking in too--

"... Obama spent $36.4 million over the course of the month (April) -- about $4 million more than he raised during the same time -- as he tried to sew up the nomination. Despite outspending Clinton in Pennsylvania and Indiana, he lost both contests. ..." -- http://news.yahoo.com/s/cq/20080521/pl_cq_politics/politics2880795;_ylt=Ag.80pyO8mw9H5FnMByhBzBh24cA

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
