If you have "no place to go," come here!

Hey, it was the economy, stupid! Like (lambert blushes modestly) some of us were saying. McClatchy:

Barring a dramatic change in the political landscape over the next three weeks, Democrats appear headed toward a decisive victory on Election Day that would give them broad power over the federal government.

Oh progressives! Progressives!

You can start holding Obama's feet to the fire now! Because by January, the trillion Obama worked the phones for will have gone where the woodbine twineth -- and either there won't be any money for, say, universal health care, or that will be the excuse. Shock Doctrine in action...

NOTE And as Stirling remarks:

he word from the IMF and finance minister meeting is that nothing so intelligent is even being considered. Instead, their view is that this is a paper crisis, and the trick is to find some arrangement of moving paper around that will rebalance the system. Then stagnation, consumption taxes, and assorted other ways of screwing the working and middle class can be used to recapture the money - I mean really, social security is just sitting there waiting to be dumped into exciting opportunities in the distressed derivatives market.

Under the banner of "shared sacrifice," no doubt.

I was a little off in '04. I see a lot of the same stuff going on this year as then. It will definitely be closer than the 10 points some think, even if the EVs are lopsided.

in SS there is nothing 'there'. It's one big IOU with W's signature on it, or whatever (many small IOU's?). Bush's idea was to do away with SS so he could dispose of at least that IOU. The problem privitizers have, including BHO, is that we have all seen what could have happened to our "Private Investment Accounts" if W had been successful. Hopefully, the American electorate, or at least those who hope to collect someday, have gotten the picture, and remind BHO, that he got the job, now he has to repay the IOU! Big Dog could do it, so maybe BHO, where he's so much better than Big Dog, should have no problem paying it back. It's good to remember that the money that IOU represents is money that working people sweated to earn. A fact that shouldn't be forgotten.
