Let the smooth side show

Jay Smooth takes complicated, and sometimes sensitive, topics (like "How To Tell People They Sound Racist") and discusses them with nuance. Remember that?

For example, he says this about Obama:
"I may be cynical about the politics but no matter what happens from here on in, our kids will never again have to wonder if they can really do it. That's something."
BTW, this is identity politics, but so is feeling proud that a woman finally had a viable candidacy in America. Outside of one's thoughts and feelings about Hillbama and the "death march" campaign, it's not nothing that these two made it to the big leagues.

Anyway, this guy seems pretty cool. I, on the other hand, just titled a blog post using lyrics from a Jesse Winchester song (random amateur YouTube performance here).

That's Always Been The One Good Thing

about an Obama presidency for me. At least for the inauguration day, a lot of African Americans in this country would probably be very happy. I'm not sure it will last, but American politics doesn't often give blacks a reason to be happy at all. Assuming Obama doesn't find a way to lose this thing, and gods know he's trying, I will feel joy at their joy.

Those were the innocent times

When I looked at the embarrassment of riches that was the Democratic field and thought how wonderful to have so many choices, and among them a woman, a black man, and a Latino man.
