Let's help Obama by choosing the best VP for him

Like Glenn Greenwald, I am now properly chastened out of my purist pursuit of picayune progressive platforms like the First and Fourth Amendments.

Two things are clear:

1. The only thing in the world that matters is an Obama victory.
2. The only way for Obama to win over today's staggeringly popular Republican Party is to (continue to) run hard Right, in a kitchen-sink strategy that turns its back on everything his party stands for, such as separation of church and state, freedom from unwarranted surveillance, timely exit from unnecessary wars, fair sentencing, reproductive freedoms, and environmentalism.

If we can find Obama a VP candidate who has enough rightwing Christianist cred, this all-important election will be a shoe-in.

An anti-abortion Dem may not prove sufficient, nor would a Big Agri Republican.

Short of forming a Unity Ticket with John McCain (and why not, since it's all about the Kumbaya, isn't it?), who is the most radical rightwinger available to run on a ticket with Obama?

Is Tom Delay good enough? Duke Cunningham? Ted Stevens? No matter if s/he has legal issues, those can be taken care of faster than you can say "homeland security."

How about Strom Thurmond? If Obama can resurrect Harry and Louise, reviving the durable SC senator should be short work.

It'll be worth it. Ponies, dude. Ponies!

Is it in the Constitution

That a former President can't be a Vice President?

If not, GWB, baby.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

What a beautiful way to heal the nation's wounds!

What ties us together is bigger than what tears us apart, y'know.

Of course

If your gonna do that, why not go whole hog and pick Cheney.

Then he really wouldn't have to do all that pesky "investigating" about FourthBranch, he could just leave it all in place, and do nothing but give speeches to the adoring(read pre-screened) populace.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

This is the kind of support Obama needs!

A superb suggestion, which will show how prescient Obama was in supporting Cheney's energy plan, once we've seen the transcendent benefits of post-partisanship in action!

I'm on board with Cheney too...

...after all, he vetted himself eight years ago!

What's Frist up to? I mean, nothing spells "Unity Pony" like getting your VP from the for-profit health care industry!

Thanks for a good read--and a bitter laugh!

If wish someone would try to pin Obama down on just why he is a Democrat--other than a good fit to win elections in his Chicago area.

Obama/Frist

--he's free, and running out of cats to kill, and healthcare to deny, and vegetables to keep alive...

Or Obama/Quayle, of course. ; >

can;t be quayle...

he's overqualified -- he'll make Obama look bad since he has a resume!

you're right!!!!

i don't know whether to laugh or cry!

Easy duh

George P. Bush.

1) His political experience will make Obama look well seasoned.

2) He appeals to Latino voters.

3) He will carry on the Bush legacy.

4) He will attract Republican votes.

5) He will add further fuel to the "You're a racist" charge that the campaign can throw out against everyone not voting for it.

And he's great with the ladies!

What a better way to counter the silly belief that Obama doesn't care enough about women. I tell you what, George Prescott doesn't just care, he gives a damn. Ladies, he'll follow you to the ends of the Earth!

Personally, I would love to see Michelle Malkin on the ticket. God, isn't she a treasure?

whatever happened to him anyway?

he was all over the place in 04, then disappeared.

Jeb Bush is available

And he could help Obama in FL! (and has an equally good record on letting votes count there)

Jeb Bush

would be the ultimate kick to the nads.

I can see it!!!

Are there any world class misogynists who should be considered?

?

Mullah Dobson?

Or would he be the wrong generation?

But why hasn't anybody mentioned Huckabee? I don't think he's any more misogynist than the usual Republican, but the Huckabee family has the animal torture thing going for them, so really, what's not to like?

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Gingrich

Huckabee probably wouldn't help in the key battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina (I'm not making this up, saw it over at OpenLeft). But what could go wrong putting Newt on the ticket? (Assuming he can be forgiven for some criticisms he's made of Republicans)

He's not pandering enough

As you mentioned, he's criticized Republicans recently. That won't do.

Despite all the GOP failures in governing and their corruption, Obama and the DNC must reach out and pander to them in the name of bipartisanship.

Gingrich has compelling advantages

He's a visionary and a strategic thinker.

Plus, I bet he's aching for payback from the Clinton years.

Maybe that's why he's been criticizing Republicans, lately? (He must not understand that won't help him with Obama....)

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Give Joe Another Shot

After all, he had to run with that pinko Gore last time out, that ruined his chances.

It's an embarassment of riches!

Gingrich.... Lieberman.... Jebbie... Why are we even considering Kain, when we could be getting a real Republican!

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Dull, dull, dull.

Come on folks, if we're going to study the GOP playbook, how can you overlook actors and musicians?

To add maturity and the appearance of military experience to the ticket, look no further than Sean Connery. You thought the media loved Huckabee with his pretty Biblical talk of women's submission to men? Wait till you see them swoon as Connery reprises his nondemoninational straight talk on calming women with a few slaps. His gruff, manly charm would eradicate any vestigial Democratic concern with the DNC's new misogyny platform, to be unveiled in Denver.

An even bolder move that would electrify the nation is a living symbol of our collective need to brush off the polarizing feminism of the past from our national shoulder. Just think of the unlimited riches of outrage Jay-Z could tap, as he uncovers racism in anyone who objects to his poetry of the streets. The thrill up Matt Yglesias' leg wouldn't stop there:

You gotta get, that, dirt off your shoulder!

And don't forget the classic:

Now once upon a time not too long ago
A * like myself had to strong arm a ho...

Ain't nothin sweet 'bout how I hold my gun
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one.

Chuck Norris or Zombie Charlton Heston?

we could take the gun out of his "cold dead hands" for real

; >

ah! Heston is in the new McCain ad against O!

Laura Bush

GOP, quiet in public, smokes (or used to), nothing personal against Hillary, her experience is more recent

she's not "faith-based" enough for O--or pro-life enough

take note that most of the names being floated are pro-life (laura isn't), and devout Catholics or other kind of Christian--Kaine i think was even a Catholic missionary.

GOP+female+known quantity+lovable loser= Katherine Harris

Just for the fun of it. Couldn't we at least have the fun of watching her mug for the cameras and flirt with the presumptuous nominee for the next 16 weeks because we know he won't make it to January 20th.

I love this job!

Katherine is soooo much fun. And she'll do just about anything.

I love this job!

that would be hysterical!

Obama/Harris 08 !

she's available, and very "faith-based" too.

Lambert, can we do this with John McCain too?!!!

I love this job!

Why ask me?

Translation: Of course. Why not?

Thought I think the Mittster is the obvious choice.

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

no Romney--the religious right already warned McCain-

it's gonna be Huckabee, trust me.

No pro-choicers like Ridge or Mormons allowed.

Kaine/McCain?

Was it just the name?

"Yes We Kaine?" from the NYT blog...can the VP offer be far behind?

Rick Lazio

GOP, young, businessman, nothing personal against Hillary

Laura Bush, too pro-choice to be on the Obama ticket??

"most of the names being floated are pro-life (laura isn’t)"--oh yeah forgot about that!! Good for her.

Wake me when it's over. Seriously, we have to try to talk some sense into this Obama guy!

Whatever happened to those old timey conservatives who wanted the government out of your life?

Alaskan VPs for everyone!

Obama/Murkowski (with a little touch of resume clearing) v. McCain/Palin!

Oh, puke. Murkowski? The worst Repub left now that Tubes

is staring down the barrel of seven felony indictments?

But yeah, not much would surprise me now.

If McCain asks HRC she should accept. She'll outlive him, just based on the probabilities.

Vast, where have you been?!?....

i totally missed your posts. :)

Y'know, if we could get Walker (not Norris, but the character

he used to play on TV -- )we could maybe get a few votes for the whole ticket. So, what's Clarence Gilyard Jr. doing these days?

We can admit that we're killers ... but we're not going to kill today. That's all it takes! Knowing that we're not going to kill today! ~ Captain James T. Kirk, Stardate 3193.0

I got it ! Barbara Bush!

the woman "who knows how to hate", according to Nixon.

But Obama keeps saying he wants to be a Prez like Reagan

Nancy Reagan.

lol!

perfect too! : >

Ya know it's like Obama speaking at the Xcel Energy Center

Remember when he went out of his way to talk at the same place the GOP convention's being held? He'd want the one that McCain wants.

Obama/Pawlenty.

Obama/Byrd 2008

Would that choice make Obama a racist?

Oh, he could also choose Barbara Bush the Younger, or Meghan McCain for shits-and-giggles.

Oh, or his typically racist, white grandmother, who actually happens to like Clinton from what I've heard.

The Barry and Donna Show

Donna Brazille. She's not right wing but she's always right (just ask her momma). And this way anybody criticizing either one of them for absolutely anything will be called out as the blatant racists they are. And of course, having a woman on the ticket will make everyone forget about Hillary.

how about "respected" Obama advisor Condi Rice?

Time Mag is all over that one -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitch...

"... the surprising respect and productive relationship between Barack Obama and Condoleezza Rice. ..."

I'm not certain Michelle would OK that one. Could just be me.

I love this job!
