Let's not forget what real racism looks like, shall we?

lambert's picture

That's our old friend Julie Myers, then-acting chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and now confirmed by our very excellent Senate.

racism

Hey, where's your sense of humor?

And especially let's not forget what real racism looks like after all the faux outrage ginned up by the Obama campaign against the Clintons.

Way to poison the well, there, guys. Although I suppose short term tactical advantage does outweigh everything, so why am I complaining?

JULIE MEYERS

How can any Immigration and Customs -Office of Investigations respect or look up to Ms. Meyers. She heads one of the larges federal law enforcement agencies and yet she has evidence destoryed! She had an employee put on administrative leave pending an investigation into the matter and orders the evidence destoyed! She says that she could not tell that the employee was wearing make-up to change his skin color---look at the pictures! His skin tone on his hands a face are not the same!

Guess the employee's manager nor thw other two that were on the judges panel had any action taken against them. Maybe they were rewarded with something compertable to confirmation as Ms. Meyers was! ICE-OI was already the butt of many well deserved joke but this took the cake!

I wonder if any employee who makes an "error in judgement" will be allowed to say "I am sorry" and that will be the end of it. I seriously doubt it!

We Need To Learn To Tolerate Stupidity Better.

We, as a joining of races, as a common people of one nation, as intelligent and civilized citizens of these great United States; need to chill the *&%^ out for a change!

There are just way too many fame and glory seeking, so-called, community leaders out there that want to jump on every single little mistake people make. I mean, the only reason anyone is jumping all over this is because they know they can get their name(s) in the press letting the whole world know that this was wrong. As if most of the U.S. wasn't intelligent enough to know this was wrong to begin with.

I just don't think we need to keep making examples out of people for doing things that didn't cause any serious injury.

Was this costume in poor taste? Yes. Was it racist? Yes. Was it intentionally racist? Maybe, maybe not. Only the guy wearing it knows what his intention was. It could be that this person was just an insensitive moron. In which case, he should be reprimanded, sent to some sort of class and we all get on with our lives.

I am not saying that all racism needs to be ignored. I hate racism as much as anyone else does. I have been the target of racism before, and I know what it feels like.

We need to pick our battles. This probably isn't one of them.

One idiot wears a stupid costume, and we just want to string him up and everyone he was at the party with, and everyone who ever came into contact with him or his relatives and friends. His neighbors and their pets.

This doesn't warrant all this media madness. If we want to stamp out racism. It needs to be done with the children. The children learn from their parents, so we need to interrupt racist trainings by doing it in our schools and in our televisions and in our music and in our movies.

Calling attention to every racist event with a megaphone and a magnifying glass is NOT good for our community.

It is time to fight fear with kindness. It is time to bring reality to the stage. Reality is, that racism is not even a percentage as strong and prevalent as it was 50, 40, 30 or maybe even 20 years ago. Progress has been made.

My grandmother is a terrible racist and I have to be careful whenever I let my kids around her. My kids probably don't know more than a couple of racist words, and if they know any, it's from hearing them in the MEDIA!! So from my grandmothers generation to my children's, I have managed to eliminate racism in my immediate family.

I suggest we all start looking through the doors into our own homes, and get outraged at that if you feel the need to be up on a soapbox. Mark

"Every racist event..."

So you're telling me that we should give the Immigration and Customs Enforcement a free pass on this?

O-h-k-a-a-a-y....

just curious how you got here, mark. and why

and what you want us to take away from your contribution. believe it or not, we're a very open minded sort of place. your point is? (200 words or less) thanks for your contribution. please comment again.

this doesn't offend me

Whoever finds this a big deal should go cry about it on Sharpton's radio show. We should stop crying about this stuff and grow up. Let's do something to change America and vote for the first African American president.

Sorry, but when the man who wants to be America's

first black president this campaign dismisses the needs of the poor, considers the fights committed Democratic senators and congressmen have waged after the Civil Rights Movement to be divisive and old battles fought long ago, and that his Unity movement in an era of the Minutemen and openly racist groups transcends race, well, I have the right to consider him either an opportunist or a fool, and I also have the right not to support him for the presidency. [cgeye]

For Chicago Dyke

I got here through a link on the Yahoo site that seemed like a good group to share thoughts with.

What I was trying to convey, mostly.. Ideas such as attacking racism where it will make a difference for the future, instead of attacking racism for how it will improve paychecks at speaking engagements.

lambert's picture

And that is relevant to this post why?

Do you think I derive my non-existent income from speaking engagements?

But the Dems are the Bigots!

I remember this one. I actually wrote a post a while back on "That Damned Liberal Racism." The MSM will continue to posit racism and sexism as problems in the Democratic party, ignoring the implicit and sometimes explicit racism and sexism of the GOP. Meanwhile, I've always felt class and power are even more important issues, and race and gender of course are related. Class warfare and an abuse of power are old stories, too, but ain't it funny how one party pepetrates much more of that, too?

But hey, you can tell the Dems are racists and sexists. Just look at their presidential candidates! (And they had a guy who was talking a great deal about class and power, too, come to think of it.)

I think we are forced to tolerate

enough stupidity in our own workplace and personal community - all in the interest of getting things done. Tolerating it elsewhere, where it can't affect getting things done in OUR world, makes no sense.

Julie is probably just under qualified to do her job - not that she lacks talent or skill or education, just experience and maturity. I imagine she is getting a large dose of both right about now.

You know what they say about experience (and it's certainly been true for me) - experience is what lets you know you are about to make a mistake you made before. Jake

Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
