Lifetime Winger attempts to slime new VoteVets ad

First, the ad (#1 on YouTube!), which brilliantly binds individual Republican candidates to Bush and Iraq. Next, the winger reaction (via Memeorandum):
Batiste, despite protestations, is either a liar or a fool. But, there’s little doubt that he has voluntarily chosen to lay down with dogs, and that he gets up with fleas.
Who are these parasites and dirty animals?
As I traced in a series of posts (the latest here, with links to its predecessors) the roots of VoteVets.org lays in a joint effort by extreme Left blogger Kos and Democrat Chair Howard Dean.
Ooh. The association with Angry Lefties is supposed to tarnish Batiste and an entire Veteran group.

But who is the author of this hit piece, posted on the deliberately vague “Democracy Project” website? From the site’s bio page:
Kesler led many pro-Vietnam activities during these years. For example, in 1967, he helped with the organization of New York City’s Support Our Men In Vietnam parade, the longest since World War II. In 1968, Kesler worked in the initial Nixon candidacy, resigning when in his stubborn idealism he felt not all there were so “pure.”
The bio goes on to detail how Bruce Kesler joined forces with Swift Boater John O’Neill in working against John Kerry’s candidacy in ‘04.

One of Kesler’s more rational complaints is that the Vote Vets ads are only targeting Republicans. Accusations of partisanship from a Swift Boater. And besides, I would love to see one of these targeting Joe Lieberman.

More on the ad from DWT!, Vote Vets, and NYT.

Troop Support

If we just drop everything and pull out of “Viet Nam on the Tigris” we’re going to leave one hell of a mess.

That stated, what choice do we have?

The only thing worse than pulling out precipitously is to leave our brave troops in Iraq without a plan.

I will grant that Petraesus is probably the best General we have had over there since the start of this conflict, but why are we are going on 5 years in Iraq and still experimenting?

There never was a plan for the occupation. There still isn’t…at least not one that will allow us to extricate our troops in any where near a timely fashion.

It’s clear that Bush is just trying to “run out the clock” so that he can blame the eventual downfall in Iraq on his (probably Democratic) successor.

That being the case, bring these people home.

Don’t let them “go down in flames” because of Dubya’s hubris.

So what if all of those kids

So what if all of those kids are dying in Iraq, they’re not important like our President? The ordinary people have always died for the benefit of their betters. Its our job as loyal Republicans to keep it that way. We’re comfortable on our knees and have no desire to stand up like free men and women. It’s scary up there. Bush/Cheney Forver.
