Corrente

If you have "no place to go," come here!

Linky goodness

I seem to be collecting rather a lot of links these days, especially since I'm trying to avoid the primariez, so I'm going to try the aggregation thing for a bit. Readers, if you've got any sites that you visit regularly, especially sites that are even more off the beaten path than Corrente, I'd like to hear about them. (It's amazing to do a Google search, and then see the same wire story appear in, like, 25 places. Can't they concentrate them?)

The mortage settlement is part of Obama's 2012 stim pack
. And Stuart Zechman is hot.

Please, please let this be irony.

Kansas City Capitol "Improvised Explosive Devices" turn out to be illegal fireworks
Which are as American as Apple Pie. The gaslighting sure is starting early this year.

Some Greek blogs I'll try to keep checking on. Inside Greece, and The New Athenian. Also, the thieves who robbed the Olympic Museum were amateurs who wanted to know where the stamp collections were. Then again, Stalin no doubt started as a an amateur. We all do!

Two (2) million jobs forecast for 2012. Sure, Obama is God-like not merely in his demeanor but his powers, yet surely even He could do better than bringing us back to where we were in 2008 -- not accounting for population growth?

Unemployment, well-being, and capitalism. The argument is that capitalism needs unemployment to keep wages low, hence well-being and capitalism are at odds. Making the JG the greatest piece of statist reform EVAH, and I'm not sure there's anything wrong with that. Could somebody please direct me to the "Anarchists for Single Payer" website? I lost the link....

Via NC, Graeber in the Boston Review: Part I and Part II.

All for now. I'll try to do this more regularly, see how it goes. Readers, thoughts?

If so, would you consider adding that? It looks good...

To get 2 million jobs, the economy would have to produce slightly over 165,000 jobs a month. Right now most of the movement on unemployment is coming from seasonal adjustments and the positive effects of those should start to reverse around May-June. I don't know if anyone really knows if the the jobs data is real at this point.

The payroll tax reduction will be eaten up by gas prices driven up by speculators just as the last one was.

The real kicker is here:

One major challenge the White House points to is Europe's debt crisis. Europe buys about a fifth of U.S. goods that are exported and about 40% of U.S. service exports.

With Europe going into recession and the South and periphery in depression that is a major flashing red light.

I'd guess that above quote is from one of the links, but I didn't find it.

What I would really like to know about concerns the statement that Europe buys "about 40% of U.S. service exports".

What the heck does this mean? Seems to say that US exports "services" to Europe. I'd really like to know what "services" we export to Europe, because I have not a clue about what these "services" might be.

Can you provide further info?

Thanks Hugh.

p.s. I assume that "services" does not mean military.
