Josh thinks the elephant is bending over. I think the image is suggestive of a drunken pachyderm dancing wildy right after having been run over by a Blackwater Humvee.
What do you think?
UPDATE: The GOP thinks of everything! The public restrooms in the Twin Cities are to die (or lie) for! Nudge-nudge, wave-wave, blink-blink, twink-twink, meet you at the sink...say no more, a nod's as good as a wide stance to a blind man...

Don't they realize what stars for eyes means in comics?
It means the person/creature depicted is dead.
At first glance the logo looked to me like an overhead shot of a dead pachyderm lying on its, ahem, left side. The stripes do indeed suggest a very large motor vehicle got halfway over the creature, stopped, backed up, and departed.
And the ear doesn't look like the ear of either an African or Asian elephant. Maybe this is some extinct species, perhaps one which lived awhile back with the hobbit-sized humans of that island of Flores and which was itself miniaturized.
I don't think this one is gonna fly. It will get folded up, put back in the drawer until the convention draws nearer, then they'll remember "Oh shit we were supposed to have a logo!" and dig the one Reagan used out of the back room.

Fossil roadkill
Roadkill. It looks like a possum-sized elephant that got run over.
And the ear doesn’t look like the ear of either an African or Asian elephant.
I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it, but the tiny ears make it a dead ringer for the extinct North American mastodon.

Not sure what the significance of the bong might be, if in fact that's what the device in the pachyderm's front foot is, but the directional signage is something every Republican visiting Minneapolis is going to find useful. :)
