One Manning brother's woes may be explained by revelations of a second knee surgery, but the other's disappointing performance is being blamed on bruises. Meanwhile, back at Valley Ranch, there's a broken hand, a broken foot, a hamstring pull, and an indefinite suspension; and I admit, the news that Tony Romo had been hurt really had an impact on my enthusiasm for the Cowboys. He and Wade Phillips are the whole reason I watch that team. But the 'Skins got pummelled this weekend, and all that leaves is Philly in the "toughest division in the NFC." Shades of an old song ...
One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me
But at the rate things are going the Super Bowl could easily be the Eagles and the Dolphins.

Sarah, I just Love Your Football Posts
I've had a love/hate relationship with pro football over the years. But you've got me watching again.
You may find this hard to believe, but I was the first woman on the sports staff of the Daily Bruin (UCLA)
Despite loathing Al Davis, for years I was a Raiders fan, partly because Ken Stabler was one of the last quaterbacks who actually occasionally called his own plays. And that great line they had, and Fred Blitnokoff (?) with the impossible to spell Polish name and the hands which made impossible catches.
I have to admit that the Cowboys was a hated team, in part , because of the rightwing cast of their coaching staff, Landry et al, and a certain unfortunate liberal prejudice against Texas, which always disappeared whenever I spent time there. Did you ever read North Dallas Forty; damn good novel.
Then I got back into it because of the Patriots.
Anyway, keep up the football posts - tell me who and what to watch for
Me too
Mpre precisely, I love that somebody is writing them.

Biletnikoff? Oh, leah, you're killin' me. But yeah, Snake
had the Mojo. (Dammit, 'cause he used it on Staubach and my 'Boys a time or two.)
Landry did try to maintain a certain lack of felons on his roster, though. So I guess that made him right-wing. Sigh. Pac-Man, we don't need, but who can tell Jerry Jones anything? (on the other hand, I note Jones isn't doing Ford SuperDuty commercials on the new stadium construction site this year. Maybe being richer than the Bush clan doesn't entitle you to buy a bigger badder pickup every fall, after all. Who knew?) Rehabbing T.O. and Tank Johnson worked out, but, dude, quit while you're frackin' ahead, already!
Who to watch for? Don't know for sure. Especially after last weekend (which took until Monday to finish playing out). Strong hint: Idiots in zebra shirts are always good contenders for "who to watch for."
And I believe you, 'cause I was (1987) the first female assistant sports editor at the Big Spring Herald.

T.O.? Pshaw. Roy Williams, baby!
T.O. has been playing the uber-jerk lately so it was good to see the news about Roy Williams, even though I despise the Cowboys and like Kitna and the Lions--remnants of my fondness for Barry Sanders.
TO playing the jerk "lately"?
You mean, like in the last decade?

Dude, they put Kitna on IR yesterday -- he's done for the year!
And once again Dallas has two players with the same name ...
but I welcome Roy Williams, especially with Sam Hurd needing surgery.
What amazes me is that over the last season I've actually sort of learnt to like TO. I like Jason Witten more, but still.

Kitna was my fantasy starter; AZ looking strong
You can always count on him for yards and TDs, but he loses so many points with the INTs. I think he's underrated and if he had a better line and wasn't on his back half the time he drops back his numbers would show it. Sigh.
I'm keeping an eye on the Cardinals in the NFC. They beat Buff and Dal in the last two weeks. They put up a fight against Washington and had to deal with Favre getting 6 TD passes--SIX! (On the latter, Laverneous Coles was a new addition to my team that week and had 3 TDs.) They need to tighten up their D, though. I'm hoping they falter as I'm a Seahawks fan...
BTW, yeah, TO has been a "jerk" for a while, but he's been worse than normal lately. Can't be good for team morale.
Well, there's been a death in Owens' family, so ...
I'm inclined not to push too hard.
That's the thing about Owens. He's the fastest physical receiver in the division (hey, if Aikman even says it on Fox, it's gotta be so, because Aikman won't admit the sky is blue without hearing it from somebody else first), and when he's on, he's dynamite.
But he drops nearly as many passes as he catches, and that's a real problem with a wide receiver.
Especially one who thinks he's not getting enough touches.
Owens actually behaved like a grownup last year; something about having a good rapport with Romo. How he gets along with Johnson remains to be seen. He's going to have to figure out ways to get open, 'cause Johnson's NOT a gambling kind of QB like Romo is. I'm not sure the Cardinals didn't put the kibosh on the whole season for the Cowboys Sunday afternoon. They sure manhandled enough players to do so.
