Racism helps those who benefit from it. Every white person in the USofA has benefitted from white racism, which is the kind there is in the USofA. You're right that racism is an important component of fascism, though, and that is indeed the direction in which we seem as a society to be tending.

We are so worried about the terrisom in other countries that we fail to see the terrisom right here in our own country by our own racist run city governments, like that of the prosecutors who will purposely seek out those that try to stand up for the rights that we have supposedly been given by our own government. I am ashamed when I read this type of news, knowing that for many Americans they will not know of this horrible, twisted tiny towns ignorance. I will spread this article around my state of Ohio and many people will know what is going on. It is time more people know that racism is very much alive, hidden from most of the news lines. Race is the identity of a power relation based on the differential application of state violence, mediated or not. If you call yourself white instead of Irish. I mean your government identity, the one you check in the box, not your family identifier of lineage. Then you have benefited from racism. How did the Irish become white? If you live in America, you’ve benefited from slavery. Please do not conflate racism, slavery, Africa, America, African American, and Black. I realize they are incredibly confusing. But they are distinct.

Two men driving BMW 740’s are doing 70 in a 55. One white one black. Both are equal in dress, age, etc. The white driver is given a ticket or let off with a warning. The black driver is removed at gunpoint, cuffed on the hood of his still hot car, placed face down by the side of the road while the officer checks to see whether or not the car is stolen. After discovering everything is alright, he gives the driver a ticket and sends him on his way. Differential application of the same law turns what should be a minor inconvenience into a nightmare. I left out color of skin because it is obvious and becoming less important. Skin color was simply an easy way of segregating and targeting a population for intimidation and terror. They tried whites but the “bleed over” was too much. They tried Indians, and they either died or ran for the hills. The Africans . . . fly in the buttermilk.

Racism defines how you relate to the person in relation to the state and your own subjective identity. If you live in America, identify as American you are racist. It is built into the subconscious construction of your notion of “self.” White, Hispanic, Asian, Latino, Black are all varying degrees of “Americaness.” They have no meaning without their negative counterpart – the slave. American freedom is defined against American slavery. American whiteness and civility is defined against, the body and culture of the enslaved African. Think of it this way, “I may be poor, I may be white, I may be trash but, at least I ain’t no nigger.”

Poor whites made up the majority in the Confederacy. Poor whites in the Confederacy or even the old South or Appalachia after the war and the early 20th century lived lives of fetid squalor by modern standards.

Their inferiority to Gentry was constantly shoved down their throats. Often by police, who felt themselves a step above common white trash. This way of living is once again sought by Our Betters, those who would be the new Aristocrats.

But Xenophon is right. How close Bush v. Gore comes to the 14th amendment. But yeah, the equal protection clause does apply to the "differential" like transmission or calculus. While we are "equally protected" we are not equally prosecuted. Selective policing and selective sentencing.

On 13, I'm not sure I agree. Narrowly, because surely slavery was legally understood was done away with. There's no market, now, in which people are bought and sold into servitude. It just seems to be that prisons are a different case. I don't think all subjects of tyrants are slaves, because to me the buying and selling aspect is paramount. But broadly, I think it makes sense to focus on the "best" which is differentiation argumnet, which is more powerful and general than the argument you make here.

The state has always controlled bodies in the name of penitence and traded that control for profit. Slavery is legal as a means of punishment. Chattel slavery is no longer here.
