Major victory for supporters of Medicare for All!!!!!!

Via Open Left we learn the latest developments in House Leadership shifts:

But Emanuel is being replaced by current Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman John Larson (Conn.), who, while well-liked and generally respected within the caucus, is regarded as far more liberal than Emanuel.

And Larson’s replacement as vice chairman is expected to be Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), a former Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairman who leans even further to the left than Larson.

Xavier Becerra is a co-sponsor of HR 676. This is great news.

I read you post and feel more optimistic--I read the comments

about Baucus and feel deeply pessimistic (and wonder why Krugman was so pleased).

We need to get the message to Obama that we can't afford to NOT have UHC. That it's part and parcel of any economic security program worth doing.

HOW????

Actually, Baucus is better than expected

Obama didn't have a mandate. Baucus wants one. That's a step in the right direction.

Indeed, but don't count those chickens before they hatch--

we don't know the details yet. DDay's write up indicated states would lose their ability to regulate health insurance companies and require coverage of certain things. I say that based on Baucus saying consumers would be free to buy from any company located anywhere. That has problems.

And, as always, the devil (devils) is in the details.

Not counting any chickens

This is, after all, the 2006 Democrats, now convinced that everything they ever did was right.
