Digby has Andrea Mitchell's latest embarassment:
Andrea Mitchell: It does go beyond rhetoric. He needs to engage the American people in this joint venture. That's part of the call. That's part of what he needs to accomplish in his spech and in the days following the speech. He needs to make people feel that this is their venture as well and that people are going to need to be more patient and have to contribute and that there will have to be some sacrifice.
And certainly, if he is serious about what he told the Washington Post last week, that he wants to take on entitlement reform, there will be greater sacrifice required from a nation already suffering from economic crisis --- to ask people to take a look at their health care and their other entitlements and realize that for the long term health and vitality of the country we're going to have to give up something that we already enjoy.
First of all General Electric was part of the big s--- pile that we bailed out. GE is part of the dead weight that is dragging the rest of us down and we should never let the GE division of the Celebrity Press Corps forget that fact. Andrea Mitchell and her worthless husband should return every dime of their income to the federal treasury.
Secondly, I would just repeat what I said earlier about The Math, we cannot get our fiscal house in order unless we raise taxes of the 20% of our population who control 84% of the wealth.

I heart Digby, but s/he can never cop to Barry's obvious faults.
In the piece, it doesn't seem to even occur to Digby that the reason SS is being put on the operating table right now is because that's part of a bargain ALREADY made between BHO and his investors; rather than one we don't have the vision to see for ourselves just yet.
Or that, there are people not surprised by this revelation - he made noises about SS during the campaign.
Or that, because a feeding frenzy at the SS trough has been the financial world's and hardcore-conservatives wet dream for a long long time, and maybe - just maybe - we're all in the middle of this all-out assault on our senses (and our sense), showing us the pageantry and coronation and the Unity

because it's the best way they have of making this happen in their lifetimes.

I take your point. Somewhere there is an old New York Magazine article documenting all the early money Obama and Clinton got from Hedge Funds, mostly Obama. Clearly they decided that they needed Dems to do the dirty deed.
But I think we should concentrate our fire on
Marie AntoinetteAndrea Mitchell. I don't think that she ever gives a thought to the fact that she has a job because taxpayers bailed out GE.That ship has flown.
The Wisdom of The Bailouts is now a self-evident truth. No one questions it. Or at least, no "sensible" people (who want to keep getting on TV) do.
Unsupervised, unaccounted for, $700B allowances, versus sick retirees showing some backbone and sucking it up? It's a good applause line for liberal bloggers and their loyal readers because it's so absurd and sick and so laden with class warfare.
That doesn't mean that it's a line which will work in the big room at Bally's, so to speak. People like Digby have already figured out the Andrea Mitchells of the world, but not the Barack Obamas. And it's the Barack Obamas who are going to pick their pockets while they're on the pony ride.

Yup. Nixon and china, Dems and SS. No one bothered to get Obama to state a clear position and hold him accountable when he changed positions. They are part of the problem.
Not that easy
There enough liberals in the senate to prevent Obama from touching SS. The outcry in the country will be enormous.
It is also not obvious that the celebrity status of Obama will last. We are deep in the hole and more money to GE and the banks will take away from the bailout package he is asking for. He already gave away too much to the Republicans and also asked for way too little to be sufficient anyway.
He can talk about years of tough going and the coronation audience may agree, but the country at large wants progress much steeper than the progress his dwindling amount can even remotely approach. As a result, his leverage will decline and, in the worst case, he'll be another Carter.

Defeating Andrea Mitchell (and Cokie Roberts, and
all their addled ilk) could be very simple.
Stop. Paying. Their. Salaries.
This is not rocket science. Avoid buying products advertised on their shows, and avoid watching their shows. Vocally advise their "sponsors" of your avoidance.
They have no idea what it's like, the Villagers, to live on a real salary in a real economy.
It's time they were shown.
