Matt Speaks for Me: Cass is an Ass

I went to the University of Chicago when Cass was all over the place, so this is more or less what I already knew. Nice to hear it from someone else, and so esteemed a blogger as Matt.

I'll leave you with a quote from Sunstein and Thaler from page 253, which could have been ripped from Jimmy Carter, Gary Hart in the 1980s, Bill Clinton in 1992, or Barack Obama today.

Ever since Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal, the Democratic Party has shown a great deal of enthusiasm for rigid national requirements and for command-and-control regulations. Having identified serious problems in the private market, Democrats have often insisted on firm mandates, typically eliminating or at least reducing freedom of choice. Republicans have responded that such mandates are often uninformed or counterproductive - and that in light of the sheer diversity of Americans, one size cannot possibly fit all. Much of the time, they have argued on behalf of laissez-faire and against government intervention. At least with respect to the economy, freedom of choice has been their defining principle.

What else is there to say about this book except that Sunstein and Thaler think that the Republican Party is pro-choice?

Feel free to read the whole thing, it will turn your stomach. Matt essentially speaks for me, Cass sucks donkey dick and I'm not at all happy at his elevation, even as I expected nothing less from Obama.

blast from the past

good to remind everyone of the record.

the word "flatulence" leaps to mind

You would think the transparent inequity with which he applies his thinking, damning government for overreach on social equality entitlements and consumer protection while never giving a mention to our government's role in empire and the war machine, would be obvious to all. It is the Big Lie, and Sunstein is nothing more nor less than an admiring student of Richard Nixon - without the charm.

My big question is, couldn't Samantha Powers have done better?

Obama just asked Cass to head regulations

Obama asks Sunstein to head Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs:

Obama has promised an overhaul to federal regulation, specifically of the U.S. financial markets, and Sunstein's job description suggests a sweeping agenda.

"This office is in charge of coordinating and overseeing government regulations," a transition official said Wednesday, "and a smarter approach to regulation is key to making government work better and getting better results in terms of protecting health, the environment, etc."

Smarter approach to regs?

We need some specifics.

Oh, government can work better, especially after watching Katrina unfold.

What's better and whom does it benefit? The majority of the population (instead of the top 500 on the Forbes list) would be a great answer.

they're all Republicans --

seriously.

tax cuts, privatizing, "smarter regulation", "govt. waste", running govt like business and making everything easiest for them and the wealthy, etc ..

Libertarian Paternalism is the new Free Market Fundamentalism

Same thing, but instead of advocating the complete elimination of government regulation, it reduces government regulation to polite, non-coercive, suggestions.

"Dear MegaCorp, would you mind terribly not destroying the environment and our national finances? We'll give you a free t-shirt and water bottle if you do! Thanks so much, - the Government."

The Conservative brand is pretty much toast, but the Libertarian brand is on the rise.

True; people who should know better even say nice things

about Ron Paul.
